Our Lillie turned 10 way back in early January of this year. When you turn 10 in our house, you get to have a "big" party. Lillie wanted to have a Wizard of Oz party and she wanted to have it at The Land of Oz in Beech Mountain, NC.
Due to the fact that parties in Beech Mountain in winter are impossible, we had the party on June 15, 2015.
In our family, we have a love for the Wizard of Oz.
We even dressed as the characters one Halloween.
Nana sewed costumes for us and Ken and I made a scepter and crown and added accessories.

I knew planning this party was going to be loads of fun.
Lillie chose these invitations from Envelope 327. She also made a banner for me. I didn't get a picture ( that I can find) of Lillie's invites so this is picture from Etsy.

Having the party at the Land of Oz was amazing. The wizard led us up to Dorothy's house. And handed out parts to the story of The Wizard of Oz to be played by our guests.
Then we all called for Dorothy, who came bounding out of the house.
The tornado was coming so she invited us into her house to get away.
Suddenly, we were in the tornado and afterwards came out onto the yellow brick road.
Where our guests played the parts of munchkins, the scarecrow, the tin man and the rest of the characters.

We finally made it to OZ and it was time to celebrate Lillie.
Since the party would happen mostly outside and all the food needed to be easily portable, I decided to do picnic foods. We had gingham straws and mason jars for everyone to drink out of. We had cookies, cupcakes, a small cake just for looks and for the family to eat later as I didn't want to have to carry a big knife to cut the cake.
The cake and cupcakes were made by our friends at Cyntucci's. The Emerald City is made of sugar, the yellow brick road and ruby slippers of fondant and the red sparkles represented the poppies.
They also made red velvet red bomb cupcakes as well as Wicked Witch cupcakes.
They were both beautiful. The heat and humidity had taken their toll by the time I got this picture.
We had gingham table clothes made by Nana LeeAnne, flower arrangements by Grammy, cheese shaped like a yellow brick road, rainbow veggie dippers, Scarecrow's apples to dip in caramel and (Hershey kiss) Tin Man Hats.
I put red glitter tulle along the front of the table.
I wish it had been fuller. (next time I use tulle, I will remember I need more).
We had two small bouquets on the other table.
Aren't the flowers so pretty?
Mini green roses, green button mums, red carnations, queen anne's lace and blue hydrangeas (because I couldn't find poppies and they were too expensive to order!) These bouquets were placed in red distressed mason jars that my mom made.
The little stuffed people are Itty Bittys from Hallmark.
I think they are too cute! They now reside in Lillie's room as a reminder of her party.
The large thing of flowers was supposed to be a hot air balloon.
But, we ran out of time to get the balloon part and couldn't figure out how to make it and transport it.
Bummer. But they still looked gorgeous!
Hubs also made the Wicked Witch of the East's legs to stick out from under the table.

After food was shared, gifts were opened and partying was done, Lillie's guests took home a goody bag that included Wizard of Oz pins, lollipops, lions and tigers and bears (oh, my!) and a special Wizard of Oz bookmark by Deb's Treasures on Etsy.
The bags had this bit of wisdom from Dorothy Gale attached.
"If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look further than my own backyard. Because if it isn't there, I never lost it to begin with. There's no place like home!"
It was a wonderful party and truly an amazing memory for Lillie's 10th Birthday celebration.
