Pennsylvania Vacation - Chocolate Day!!!

On the second day of our vacation, we went to Hershey! Hubs was still doing the rail car trip so it was just Nana LeeAnne, the kids and me. We opted not to do the theme park, but we did do all the fun things at Chocolate World....
The very first thing we did after we arrived was take the ride through the factory
tells how they make their famous milk chocolate.

B loved the cows.....

Next we made our own candy bars. This is a new attraction for 2010.
It was pricey but loads of fun -- so well worth it I think!
First thing you have to do to make your own chocolate bar is to
done your apron and your hairnet....
and if you are B - a passy.

Directions to make your own chocolate bar....

You get to decide what your want in your chocolate bar. Once you've added all that you want
in your bar, you push go...and then....
Nana Lee Anne and B watching.....

the girls watching the machine make their individual bars....

After it goes all the way through the first part of the machine,
you get to design your own wrapper....

After you design your wrapper on a computer,
you send it to the printer....

It prints it out, and the nice people
behind the counter wrap it around your
own chocolate bar....
and they give them to you....

After we were finished making our chocolate bars, we needed
a drink so we went to the eating area. We were enjoying our drinks waiting
to go on to our next activity, when we saw this guy!
B was so funny! He was very excited to meet Mr Reese's
and started waving and saying hi!!!!

He held his hand... And was so caught up in Mr. Reese's, that he didn't want
to turn around and have his picture made....

BUT - finally we got him turned around and got a picture...
After our break, we took the trolley ride around the town of Hershey.
The character's/guides on the tour bus were great!!!

And they told the story of Melvin Hershey very well!
A shot of the whole town ......

After the trolley ride, we drove on into Harrisburg where our hotel was for the night.
Hubs and Granddaddy met us there. We got some supper and
came back to the hotel and showed Daddy our chocolate bars....
and of course - enjoyed some of them!!!

We had a great day in Hershey, PA. We loved Chocolate World and learning about Melvin Hershey and all that he did for his community. One of the things I loved
learning about him was how tenacious he was. He failed 3 times and was failing the 4th when
his business finally made it. And when he made it, he wasn't even making milk chocolate.
He was making caramels.
Great lesson about keeping on!!!!

Have a great Tuesday everyone!!!
