Fighting the Battle

I wanted to tell you all about the Deeper Still event today but I just don't have time....I have a million and one things to do today.....
I just don't have time to get it all on here as I want to so I will put it up tomorrow - I promise! =)
I know you can't wait......

But, for today, I leave you with some verses that I am GOING to commit to memory in order that I might more effectively fight the battle that goes on within.

For a Critical Spirit (I tend to be critical too often):
To put off the critical spirit:
Galatians 5: 15 -(NIV)
If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
Put on instead:
Colossians 3: 12(NIV) -
Therefore, as God's chosen people, Holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

For Worry/Fear (which tends to plague me)
To put off worry and fear:
Philippians 4:6 (NIV)-
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
and in the MSG --
Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness , everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
To put on:
1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

Philippians 4:6-7 is scripture that I have learned and relearned over and over....I know it. But this is the first time I've looked it up in the Message and I have to say that I love the way it says it. I will be carrying these verses around with me and working them until I get them!!!! I need these things hidden in my heart in order to fight off the characteristics that God wants to get rid of and to put on the Characteristics of Christ. Do you have verses you are working on right now? I'd love to hear them!

oh - and one last thing-- on a completely unrelated topic--
Does anyone else out there feel that the cost of groceries is out of hand? I do. We have a grocery budget but it is SO hard lately to keep in that budget and be able to feed my family.....NOT to mention feeding them healthy food.....I do believe that it is better for us all to eat local, fresh food when available. I am striving for that....but buying produce at the local produce stand and buying fish from the local fish market is expensive......
Anybody know what I am talking about? Anybody got any advise for me? Seriously! This week I've spent $165 ish on groceries and that was less than usual because the girls are out of town.....

I must get going today. Like I said -- a million and one things to do.
Have a fabulous Thursday, girls!!!

  1. As to the grocery question, yes I've noticed a price increase. I thought it was due to energy costs rising last year, but I haven't noticed a drop in prices since the cost of energy dropped. Hmmm....

And for the verses: THANK YOU. You are awesome! :)

  3. I really, really struggle with the fear thing too. I wrote about it a little bit last week, with Peanut's doc's appt. and all....everything is just so different after our loss, and I fear all the time "what could be". God is working on me about that--giving those thoughts completely over to Him, and just praying about it rather that worrying or fearing the possibilities--and I appreciated reading this reminder today! :-)
