The Science Museum

I didn't get a chance to visit with you all yesterday because I got to go on a a field trip with A. I say I got to go with her but really - I had to drive my own self (and B) there and back.....A could have ridden home with B and I but she chose to ride on the bus.
So, I drove myself and B to a city an hour away to their Science Museum that is right downtown. I was a little worried about finding parking , but was able to park in a garage about a block away so not too bad. The hardest part was finding an entry to the Museum that was stroller accessible....did I mention this is a children's museum....I think the folks there need a ramp. It isn't easy hefting the stroller with the baby in it up the stairs....luckily, there were only 2 or I might have just went back to the car.....
Anyway, while at the Museum, A's class went to two different classes with a scavenger hunt in between. The first call was "All about Soil". They learned about the 4 components of soil....whereby I admit that I didn't pay very good attention because I can only remember three of them -- water, air, and rock..... They had samples to look at. They were encouraged to look at, feel, listen to and smell their soil.

This is A listening to the sand.

Here she is smelling the soil.
Then we had a scavenger hunt that basically involved 100 1st graders running around in a room that was way small for that many running 1st graders, where there were many things for running 1st graders to knock off.....and me trying to keep up with my group of three excited 1st graders.....not my favorite part of the day.

The second class was called "What's under your feet" and we learned all about rocks. Did you know that there are 4 sizes of rocks.....boulders (anything 10 inches or more), cobbles (anything 2 inches but less than 10 inches), pebbles (anything less than 2 inches but bigger than sand), and sand. Obviously, I paid more attention in the second class.

Here is a shot of A and her partner S comparing the rocks in their box.

Lastly, we all ate our lunches together.

Here is a shot of B, me and A before B and I trekked back to the car. Please pay no attention to how long my bangs are! It was raining and my hair was not loving it. Also, I noticed and cut them last night. NOW they are much better!
And lastly, I'd like to say Thank You A, for letting me spend this day with you on a field trip. I loved every minute of watching your personality in the classroom. I'd drive myself downtown and fight for parking anytime to spend the morning with you. You are precious to me!

Ya'll have a great Thursday!
