Stepping Up to the Challenge

I can't believe I'm posting on this topic. But here goes.....

I've always been quick to tell people that Politics are NOT my thing. Matter of fact, Politics tends to be a bad word in my view. I am a very non confrontational person and listening to debates is maddening for me. I cannot stand to hear people argue. I also can't stand to have people tell me half -truths or just plain lie. Quite frankly, I don't think there are many high ranking politicians who don't do exactly that to make themselves look better. Campaign adds drive me nuts.
I confess that in all previous elections since I've been old enough to vote, I've put forth minimal effort picking who to vote for. By minimal I mean I usually listened to who my husband and my parents were voting for and went along with their decisions. Irresponsible I know.
To be honest- I would like nothing more than to bury my head in the sand and uncover it sometime in March when all of this political stuff is over with.

In the past few years, however, the Lord has been convicting me to pay attention to politics. To pray for our government and the decisions that are made and not just stick my head in the sand and hope for the best.
I really want to fight this -- run the other way-- say 'No, God - please don't make me do it'. However, I've decided it is time to step up and do what God is calling me to do.

He is calling me to choose my candidate in accordance to my bible. The question I (and we all) should be asking is this: "Which candidate's beliefs line up with my beliefs?"
My opinion is that there are some issues that the bible speaks clearly about and others that the bible doesn't speak so clearly about. Christians should choose their candidates by whose views line up best with the bible. Having said this, I know that politicians aren't always the most honest people in the world. We have to make our decisions based on the information we have and on the answers we get from God when we pray.
There are many, many issues that need attention. This was called to my attention yesterday and I just thought I would share it with you all. God expects that we give and give generously. I will take this article into consideration while making my decisions.
This week has been incredibly hard in light of the economy. One thing I keep wondering is this -- I hear these candidates talk about saving Americans money. I just wonder why they don't stop raising campaign money by charging hundreds of dollars a plate. How about putting that money back into the economy instead of toward your campaigns.....just my thoughts.

I've been paying more attention (reluctantly) to the presidential race this year. And I will probably watch the vice presidential debate (which will be excruciating) this week. God expects me to pray for and be a responsible American. To vote according to my beliefs. And then to pray for our government (as well as our economy) to do HIS will.

I'm stepping up to the challenge this year. I'd rather run and hide somewhere but this is what God is calling me to do.

I'm heeding his call to be vote according to my beliefs and not popular opinion.....how about you?

  1. Hi, Mindy, I found your blog through Elaine at "Peace for the Journey".

I am right in sync with you on this topic, and I believe the Lord is calling Christians to stand up for the Godly heritage on which this country was built!

    Great post!
