Keepin' It Real

I fully believe that memorizing scripture is essential to fighting the battles in the mind.
But let me just be honest here.....

1) Right now, I know some scripture by heart exactly where it is and word for word. I know many more things are are in scripture more by reference and definitely NOT verbatim.....and there there is the massive amount of scripture that I can say I don't know at all but that "might" be in there somewhere.

2) I need to know more of the scripture by heart-- verbatim.

3) It's hard to memorize scripture!!!!!

SO - knowing all of this I'm determined to do a better job of it. And what better way to learn it myself than to teach it to my kids?

Starting TODAY -- at meal times we are going to work on some scripture.....our first is to be this:

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.

Now, wonder how long it will take us all to learn it? I also plan on making a chart so we can all see and get excited about our progress.....

Well - it's time for lunch and then we are heading to the pool probably for the last time since it closes this weekend. Considering that we've only gone a few times all summer, that membership was NOT a good idea.....live and learn I guess....but that was a hard $150 lesson!!!!!

Have a great Thursday everyone!

in HIM -

  2. It's so funny that you are posting about this. We've been teaching Princess Scripture before bed each night. She memorizes so fast we're up to learning a new verse every 3-4 days. But truthfully I think I'm getting more out of it than she is. I've already memorized about 12 verses I didn't know simply because we go over them with her every night. Teaching truly is the best way to learn something!

  3. Oh, the funny part is that the last passage we memorized was Proverbs 3:5-6! :)

  4. How do you plan on going through the bible and choose scriptures to memorize? Just curious because this has been on my heart and I would love to know how you plan on doing it.
