Well, as I was driving my two oldest to school this morning at 9:30 am -- we had a two hour delay for snow....can you believe it?!!? It is only October 28th, and I do live in NC, for crying out loud. BUT I am loving it! I will take snow whenever I can get it..........
anyway -- back to what I was saying.......While driving them to school, I was listening to this pastor speak on exactly this subject.
While discussing his take on God allowing bad things to happen to people, he made this statement....
"God's love is not like our love.
God's love
is a perfecting love...."
What statement....this I will ponder on today. Your thoughts? All 5 of you who read this, please let me know your thoughts =)
I think that because our definition of 'love' has become so distorted we fail to see how God could be loving us sometimes.
ReplyDeleteIf you were to ask most kids these days how their parents show that they love them, you will probably get a list of all the latest toys they have received and the places they went etc... I doubt many of them would recall the time they got a spanking for shoving a penny in the light socket.
But aren't we the same way? When it seems like blessings are falling from the sky, whether it be in the form of financial or material, we proclaim God's love. But when we are going through those blasted trials and lessons we can only learn through obedience we weep and remember the words of Alfalfa in the Little Rascals movie, "And the sky opened up and God said, 'I hate you Alfalfa'. (That is so my favorite movie line ever)
It's not a new selfishness. The children of Israel were brats too.
I guess when we can't think of anything else to be thankful for, we could always be thankful that God is patient with His spoiled kids
I will be pondering this today!
ReplyDeleteThat IS something to ponder. I think that it is so hard for us to "get" how much God loves us....it's SO much more than we love ourselves or even our children. It's hard for me to fathom that God loves me more than I love my own children but he does because he is the perfect Father.
