Pondering on this Good Word tonight......
1 Peter 3: 8-18
“Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
11 They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”[a]
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
11 They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”[a]
13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats[b]; do not be frightened.”[c] 15But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. 17 For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
I would love to hear your thoughts on these scriptures that are holding my mind this night......
What jumps out? What is God saying to you through these words?
One of the biggest things His is saying to me is the reminder to not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but to repay evil with blessing...... such a hard thing to do.
in HIM-
It is so hard to NOT repay insult with insult, evil for evil. I stuggle with it every day. My prayer I say each day I include this sentence - And, Lord, keep your arm around my shoulders and your hand over my mouth! I believe it is human nature to repay evil with evil, but with the Hand of God over my mouth, it is easier to keep quiet!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I saw this this morning. I have a very close family member who is lost and I'm praying so hard for him to give his life to Jesus. I sent him a card yesterday letting him know I'm praying for him that he would put his life in the hands of Jesus. He is very hard hearted and I find myself feeling afraid of how he will react to the card. This Scripture brought me comfort in that no matter how he responds, for me to respond with such love and peace in Jesus. Thank you!
