Moments {6.27.14}

Another week has zoomed by.
We had VBS at our church this week so that made it a super busy week.
Here are some of the moments I captured in pictures this week.

Saturday, June 21, 2014 --  Saturday morning, we were still at Annual Conference. We spent the morning cleaning up the cabin and getting ready to head home.
Before we left though, our oldest two had the PK (Preachers Kid) luncheon, so we dropped them there and went with the younger two to get some lunch ourselves.

These two had a staring contest at lunch.

After the lunches,we rounded up our brood and headed home.
Just in time for me to start getting ready for VBS that would start Monday morning.

While I was out, some wonderfully home grown produce arrived at my door.
SO very grateful for church members who share with us the bounty from their gardens!

170/365......fresh deliciousness!

Sunday, June 22, 2014 -- Church began our day the right way.  Hubs spoke one Gamaliel.
He is one of my favorite biblical characters. He had some wisdom and saved the hides of the apostles.
Then it was time to get everything ready for VBS.
We spent the afternoon decorating.
The theme of our VBS was "God's Big Backyard".
We had loads of trees, and tree houses and owls peeking out (and other critters, too!)

171/365.....the canopy of trees that they passed through to get to the sanctuary was one of my favorite parts!

There was much to be done to finish preparing for VBS and this girl and I ended up at church until 12:30AM.  SO glad that she was willing to stay and help me!

Monday, June 23, 2014 -- We kicked off VBS.
All week long we talked about ways to serve Jesus.  We started our week talking about serving Family.  Then we learned that God's backyard gets bigger and bigger and bigger.

It was a wonderful, but exhausting morning.
We came home for lunch and as I was headed back to church to prepare for Tuesday, I looked over to see this.
172/ tired boy.

Tuesday, June 24, 2014 --  On Tuesday at VBS, we talked about serving our friends.
After a great second, albeit SUPER rainy, day at VBS, I worked all afternoon to prepare for the next morning, then rushed home to change clothes and head to the funeral home. Some of my sweet youth girls had lost their grandfather and we wanted to go show our respect and love to them.

Once I was home, hubs had taken the kids to a fast food place that I do not like to get supper. SO,
I took advantage of the situation and headed to one of my favs for some quiet.
It was lovely.

I also ran to get some much needed staples since we had zero groceries in our house.

I made it back in time to watch hubs play some of his softball game.  Our church softball team is awesome and ended their season in second place in the tournament.
We got home and I saw the clouds over the church.

173/365......SO pretty.

Wednesday, June 25, 2014 --- Another fantastic day of VBS.
On day 3, we learned to serve our neighbors. As well as learning WHO our neighbors are.

We had more and more song leaders are the week went on =)

Part of this VBS curriculum, was a 'community corner', where each day the children did some sort of service project related to that days theme. Day three was Serve Neighbors.
SO they decorated grocery bags and took them home to fill with canned/dry goods.
They returned these bags the following two days of VBS.
We collected A LOT of food for our local food pantry.

174/ exited to serve our neighbors!

Thursday, June 26, 2014 -- On Day 4 of VBS, we learned about Serving our Community.
These were some super cute song leaders.....singing "Gonna Serve"!
See our bags of food behind them?

We arrived home Thursday afternoon, tired but with full hearts.
I grabbed the mail and there was a package.
I love packages!
Our sweet friends the Fosters, had sent Allie and I a pick-me-up from Colorado.

175/365.....They are such a blessing.

Friday, June 27, 2014 -- Our final day of VBS.
We talked about serving Jesus means sharing Jesus.
Loving people is loving Jesus.
Our story telling team did an amazing job all week sharing our stories with the children.

We finished VBS with full hearts and exhausted bodies. But the day didn't stop there.
We ran some errands as a family and then Allie and I headed to our churches Youth Center for the evening.

By the time I got home I was so, so sleepy.
And still.  I didn't get in bed until this time.....

176/365......that's AM, people.

Which is why today (Saturday), I'm doing not much of nothing.
Except resting.
And I am doing that.
Before jumping back into another busy week tomorrow.
But for today, I'm enjoying some much needed rest!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Moments {6.20.14}

Another week has flown by.
I had plans to blog about other goings on this week, I really did.
It just didn't happen.
Maybe next week.....though, I'm not promising.
It is VBS week around here.
At least I can still share  a few of the "moments" from our last week.

Saturday, June 14, 2014

On Saturday, hubs and I were invited to a second high school graduation.
We spent the morning at home and then headed out to graduation.

We then went to a graduation party for one of those awesome grads!

163/365.....Graduate -- Class of 2014

Sunday, June 15, 2014 -- Since it was Father's Day, hubs got to choose the activity for the afternoon once we got home from church.
After a quick lunch, we headed to a local zoo.

164/365..... interesting place.

It wasn't a very big zoo, so it didn't take long to go through it.
We saw some interesting animals and Maggie even got to pet a tiger cub.

Monday, June 16, 2014 --
The first day of summer break for the kiddos.
It was nice not be HAVE to get up at 6AM.
We were all still up quite early, hubs and I had lots of work to do.
Maggie went to a friends house for the afternoon.
They always make up dances and insist I see all of them when I come to pick her up.
They did a great job.

165/ favorite bedtime snack.

Tuesday, June 17, 2014..... We were headed out of town on Tuesday afternoon to hubs Annual Conference.
As I was beginning to pack up that morning, I walked by to see this.....
guitar lessons early in the morning.

We arrived at Lake Junaluska in time to go to one of our favorite places to eat.
Then we took a hike around the lake.  It was a great evening.

166/365..... sisters

Wednesday, June 18, 2014 --- Hubs headed off to his conference meetings.
It was a story day, so the rest of us headed out to do some bowling.
A lot of fun with these kiddos. (Allie was with a friend all afternoon)

167/365....  the cabin decor where we were staying.

Thursday, June 19, 2014 -- On Thursday some wonderful friends from Drexel came up to hang out with us for the day.
The kids had a fantastic day swimming and hanging out.

168/365.....great friends....

Friday, June 20, 2014 --- On Friday, we hung out at the cabin for the morning.
At one point everyone in the room with me was on some kind of electronic device.
It was time to do something active.

Both Maggie and Allie got to visit with friends from Sylva for the afternoon. Brady, Lillie and I did some shopping and then we headed back to pick up Dad after his meetings to go get supper.
We picked up Maggie, Allie and her friend Erin and headed back to Junaluska.
169/365.....the lake at night.

It was a great week at Annual Conference.
We are now home again and back to getting ready for this fast approaching VBS week.
It's gonna be great learning WHOOO we serve with the children of our community this week.

Moments {6.13.14}

The moments I captured and want to remember from our week.
It's been quite a week around here that has ended with the first day of SUMMER.
We couldn't be happier about that!

Saturday, June 7, 2014
This day started with VBS training at church.
Ken and Lillie were still in the mountains  so the rest of us did some shopping at Old Navy and then went out to supper together.

I also finished this book that night.  I think it was a good book.
Allie (12) REALLY  wants to read it.
I'm not so sure I'm good with that.
I'm up for your thoughts on the subject!!

Sunday, June 8, 2014 --
Another busy Sunday for us.  We celebrated our Graduates with a breakfast as well as during worship. They are each given a quilt and a bible to take with them to college.

That afternoon, we had The Bridge ( our 5th/6th grade ministry) and an End of the School Year Lake party for our youth ministry....

A very full day full of lots of fun before heading home to get ready for school.

Monday, June 9, 2014 --
VBS is coming up at our church in just a couple of weeks.
That means I have a lot to do.
Not to mention that we had a meeting with our local diabetic educator with Allie right in the middle of the day, so getting groceries was out of the question.
We made a quick trip to Steak and Shake for an early supper before rushing back home for our evening activities.

I had some things to work on for VBS that evening and hubs was in a meeting, so our kids were playing on the playground.  Our friend, Elizabeth asked her Mom to allow the girls to join them for girl scouts.  She graciously said yes.
They had lots of fun making these great decorative bottles.

Tuesday, June 10, 2014 --
We started our day with Applesauce Muffins from Allie's diabetic cookbook.
She really liked them.

159/365......and just for a few minutes it was nice to see my 12 year old smile.
{Any one else know what I'm talking about}

It was also another busy day of work. Part of which was spent delivering flyers.
You know you live in the country when you see this sign on the side of the road.....

I did get to have a nice lunch with a friend.
It was a wonderful break from the hurriedness of life. Thanks, BJ!

Wednesday, June 11, 2014 -- Allie had her first visit with the Endocrinologist since we found out she has T1 Diabetes.  Everything went quite well. She has gained back all but 1 pound of the 16 she lost which is awesome.
I really liked her doctor and I think that Allie liked her, too.
And she made us feel like we were handling all of this newness quite well.

Also on Wednesday. my sweet girl had her 6th grade bridging ceremony.
This was a ceremony where she became an actual middle school student.
She is no longer an Elementary School student.
I can't believe it.
I so feel like I just blinked and we are suddenly at middle school.

160/365......a little heart breaking....

Thursday, June 12, 2014 --
Work, work and more work.

161/'s going to be great!

I also got to go to the graduation of one of our High School students on Thursday.
I was so honored that he asked me to come.

Friday, June 13, 2014 ---
The last day of school!!!!

I got my hair done and the kids went to school for the morning.
We then spent the afternoon doing family stuff.
It was a great afternoon.
We haven't had family time in a long time and it was much needed.
We also got our traditional last day of school ice cream.
Well, we did Sweet Frog frozen yogurt this year.
Allie chose sugar free cheesecake flavor.

162/ people!

Moments {6.6.14}

Another week of lots to do.
Taking a moment to look back over it all gives me time to stop and reflect --
even if for just a moment. {GRIN}

Saturday, May 31 , 2014 --
Another Saturday of ball games for two of my kids. Maggie had a 10AM softball game. I thought it was at 10:30 and realized I was wrong at about 9:40, so we arrived at the exact time for the game.
After her game, we went home for lunch and came back for Brady's last t-ball game.
Flowers picked for me.
By my kiddo's.
Sweet little moments like these are what it is all about.

149/365....... T-ball is the best.  Even though these two were on opposite teams, they are still buddies first.

Sunday, June 1, 2014 -- Another busy, busy Sunday for us.
Youth Group.
Then Miss Lillie's first piano recital.
She played "Pop, Goes The Weasel" and a hymn that I cannot remember the name of right now.
She has only been taking lessons for about 2 months, but she is doing amazing!

150/365.......I'm so proud of her!

And then it was home for a small rest before a supper meeting at church.
After the meeting, I came home and did a little late night menu planning.
If you look at this picture and think. Gosh, she is a bit ocd.....well, yes.
I admit that I am.

Monday, June 2, 2014 -- Monday was a bookend.....bookended? VBS meetings. And lots of work and a softball game in between.
Brady and I went through all of the art work he brought home from preschool to decide what to keep and what 'not to keep'.
One of the things in there was a picture he drew of me.
151/365.......scary, stressed out Mommy......

Stressed out Mommy dreaming of a vacation in the sun.......

Tuesday, June 3, 2014 - The power was out at church most of the day, so Brady and I took the opportunity to take our time getting out the door to get groceries. This is my silly boy on the way home. He got new sunglasses and a new flashlight.
Made his day.

Once we were home and all the groceries put away, I went for a walk in a our yard.
There are apple trees in our back yard.

152/365.....they smell heavenly.....

Wednesday, June 4, 2014 -- This was my marathon work day this week.  Not really a marathon, but to Brady it felt like it. We arrived to the church at 9am and by about 1:00, he was extremely tired of sitting around with not much to do.
So, he and I went to grab some lunch at a local place up the street.
It was a reward for him being so good and for the fact that we were going back for another hour until time to get the girls from school.
These are our silly faces as we took a break.

We had our last Family Night Picnic at church that evening and then I had another meeting. Yes, I did have a meeting every night last week.
I arrived home just in time to over see Allie's new bedtime routine.

153/365......bedtime snack - 3 crackers with peanut butter.

Thursday, June 5, 2014 --- A beautiful start to the morning.....

Thursday included a trip to take Allie to the orthodontist and a quick lunch out before taking her back to school.  Then Brady and I spent some time in the yard. He wanted me to watch him jump from the swings.
154/365......growing up. so sad.

Friday, June 6, 2014 ---  It was a hard morning for our family.  Sometimes things are just hard.  And being 12, or 10, or 9 or 5 makes it worse.  Shoot.  Sometimes being 40 makes it worse. ;)
After all that was over, I  went and got some more work done before time to get going for our evening.

155/365......softball and t-ball have taken a lot of our time lately. It's bitter sweet that it is {almost} over.

It was a busy evening for our family.
Ken and Lillie headed out yesterday afternoon for a mountain ride on the rails.
Maggie had her final (regular season) game.
Brady had his T-ball awards and his 'All-Star' Game.
And Allie attended her End of Elementary Party.

Lots of changes happening in our family.
As I've said before it is a time of finding our 'new normal'.
I'm kind of hoping we find it soon.  It's wearing me out.
