A Quiet and Reflective Christmas

We had plans on Christmas Eve.
There was loads of cooking, packing and wrapping to be done.
There were Christmas Services to attend.
Three for Hubby and two for the rest of us.
We would have Christmas breakfast with my inlaws and then head on to Georgia Christmas afternoon.
But,  then --
Allie woke with a fever that day.
Since the flu had been in our house over the past week, we figured she had the flu too.
I called the doctor. They agreed it was probably the flu and said to up her Tamiflu (she was already taking preventatively) for two days.
So, the packing would wait.
The cooking and wrapping got done.
The Christmas Eve Services were attended, but not by me or Allie.

I was hoping that Allie would be fever free by Christmas morning, but she wasn't.
Santa had left gifts and so we got up to see what he left.....

Maggie got a Kindle Fire, some Lego Friends, and a new vest.

Her Kindle is pink. She loved it.

Lillie got almost exactly the same thing.
She got a Kindle Fire, a huge set of Legos and a new vest.

Her Kindle is bright yellow! SO exited!

Brady  got model cars, a helicopter and an ipod.

He was very excited about it all.

Allie got new boots, a vest and Kaya's horse (American Girl).

She was running a fever and feeling quite poorly.  But spent a few minutes looking at her gifts before laying down.

We ate our traditional breakfast -- homemade cinnamon rolls and breakfast casserole.
We were all quite sad about not getting to have our family here and then head on to Georgia.
We spent the day resting, watching movies and reading. As well as doling out ibuprofen to Allie when it wore off.
Yesterday evening, we felt that we needed to get out.
So, we piled into our car - Allie felt pretty good as long as she had ibuprofen in her -- and headed out.
We found a Wendy's that was open and went through the drive through.
We ate our food as we drove around and looked at Christmas lights.

When we got home, we watched the original "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" and then read the Christmas Story and talked about what Christmas is really about.

As much as we missed our family, it was a quiet restful Christmas Day for my family.
One without hustle and bustle.

Allie was still running a fever this morning, so we took her to the doctor.
Turns out she has strep.  (Even if she had the flu, it was already treated -- so they didn't even check).
She got a shot so she should be feeling much better by tomorrow and will no longer be contagious.
We are heading to Georgia.....
Let the hustle and bustle begin....

Even though we are excited to be headed out to see family and get gifts.....And even though I am SICK of sickness -- I pray that God will remind each member of my family that the quiet Christmas we had yesterday was a gift in itself.
I'm so glad that we ended our day yesterday with the reading of the Christmas Story from Luke.
Merry Christmas Everyone!

May we all remember what and WHO we are celebrating.

I woke up yesterday morning with  a song in my head.  It was "How Beautiful" by Twila Paris.
As I thought about the lyrics, singing it in my head, I kept thinking that it has more to do with Easter   and communion  and my living as HE did than Christmas.
But the Holy Spirit reminded me that without Christmas there would be no Easter.

How Beautiful!

Two weeks of pictures to share and my feeling pretty sickly,
means that this post will be long on pictures and short on words.
These last two weeks plus a few days have been crazy in our house.
I think my body was telling me to slow down.....broken foot and sickness.
Here goes.....

Friday, December 19, 2014 --
Allie came home from school today telling me how her teacher brought everyone cookies for their last day of school, but she brought Allie goldfish.  Love that her teacher was being thoughtful for my sweet girl.  She was thankful, too.

350/365.....Tried to get a pic of the kids in their Christmas shirts.
Love the shirts.
Wasn't thrilled with the pictures.
OH, well.
We will try again on Christmas Day hopefully.

No one in our house has run a fever since early this morning.
Hoping we are beginning to mend and that NO ONE else in my family comes down with it!

Moments {12.5.14}

This week was probably the calm before the storm.
We didn't have many "extra" things this week.
Ken didn't have evening meetings at church and I only had one.
We had only the 'normal' kids activities and Children's choir on Wednesday.
So, it has been a rather quiet week.....sort of.
Here are the moments I've collected this week.

Saturday, November 29, 2014 --
There was the moment ( well day really) that I got to spend with my sweet friend doing some Christmas Shopping!

There was the moment when I was saying goodnight to the kiddo's and was stuck by how grown up she is.

331/365.....  she's 13.....

Sunday, November 30, 2014 --

There was the moment that the Advent Season began and we sang this song.

There was the moment when we decided that since we had time, that we could go and see our friend, Parker, in Miracle On 34th Street on Sunday afternoon.

332/365.......excellent production.

Monday, December 1, 2014 --

There was the moment I picked up these two books for our Women's study that will start in January.

There was the moment when Maggie decided to write a report on why she should be allowed to have an Instagram Account.

333/365........and she presented it to us.

Tuesday, December 2, 2014 --

A moment when I sat thinking about what a dreary day it was as I waited in the car line.

There was the moment when Brady walked in after he, Lillie, Maggie rode the bus home after school and laid on the floor for 15 minutes before throwing up all over the place.
They don't ride the bus everyday and he got carsick.

334/365......but then he was happy.

Wednesday, December 3,  2014 --

There was the moment when I saw this on my TimeHop App.
Aww, two years ago at Disney....

There was the moment on Wednesday when I realized how much I love our suppers together each night.

335/365...... I needed a picture of it.....

Thursday, December 4, 2014 --

This moment when I got serenaded on the way to school by these four with a song about a moose named Fred who liked to drink his juice in bed.

There was the moment when we all stayed up to watch Peter Pan Live!

336/365........did you watch?

Friday, December 5, 2014 --

There was the moment when it was confirmed that the fall I took earlier in the day had indeed broken something in my foot. Boo!

There was the moment that Lillie gave her dad and I these two cute little items she made for us at school.
She said that she had "an extra hour of school" so she made us something.

337/365.......not sure where the extra hour came from.

These are the moments of our week.
What were the moments in yours?
