Moments {3.28.14}

Another week has come and gone.
And  it was another busy one.
I know I sound like a broken record but this week was busier than usual, as I knew it would be.
Things are changing and new things are starting in our family and those things have shaken our schedules.

Saturday, March 22. 2014 --
On Saturday morning, our family went several different ways.
Allie was at the Great Wolf Lodge with a friend.
Hubs left to go do a funeral that was a couple of hours away, dropping Maggie and Lillie at his mom's on the way to spend the night.
I finished my coffee quickly so Brady and I could head to Asheville.

We met our friends, The Newkirks, for lunch at The Mellow Mushroom.
After lunch, they took Brady with them to see Disney Jr. Live with Jake, Sofia and Doc McStuffins.
While they saw the show, I did some shopping!

81/365......These two love each other so much.

Sunday, March 23, 2014 --
We headed over to church as the sun rose.
Beautiful sunrise.

Another busy Sunday including church, children's church,  and a mission with our SWAG Youth Ministry before arriving home for the day around 3PM to be with my family.

81/365......The Last Supper. Remembrance cups and Communion Chalices made by 3rd-6th graders.

Monday, March 24, 2014 -
This day started with my favorite mug falling off a table and shattering.
It was definitely a Monday.

The day included lots of work and grocery shopping.
I picked up the girls from school on the way home from grocery shopping.
As soon as I got the groceries unloaded, the girls and I went to meet our boys and get some supper.
We had to grab supper out because tonight was the first night at T-ball practice for Brady and Ken, who is helping coach.
A couple of the girls went to tee ball practice to help.
And Lillie and I headed home.
Lillie had to clean her room and I needed to {force myself} run.
After all that I was ready to sit and read.....

82/365......but this book?  I'm really struggling with it.
I decided to read it knowing my oldest was going to ask to read his stuff.
SO far, I'm not a huge fan.
The language really bugs me.

Tuesday, March 25, 2014 --
IT was a wet, rainy day.  Rainy. Snowy. Sleety day.
I worked and had a lunch meeting. The lunch was really fun as it was with my friend, Tina.
She is the Director of Children's Ministris at her church and I enjoy talking with her.
She gives great advice and I am enjoying getting to know her.

Hubs and I had an afternoon meeting so after getting the kids from school, we headed back to the church.
After the meeting we headed home for quick supper of sandwiches to get ready for our evening.
Maggie was supposed to start softball practice tonight but the weather cancelled it.
Usually on Tuesdays, Allie has ballet.
Then, she informed us that she was no longer interested in doing ballet.

83/ more dance for this girl after 8 years.
I snuck down and took this picture of her sleeping because I wanted to remember this day. My first to start dance and the last to stop it.

Wednesday, March 26, 2014 --
This is my favorite smell every morning.
Coffee makes my mornings!

After getting the girls off to school and Ken and Brady out the door, too.
I made time to run a couple of miles before getting ready and heading to church to work for a while.
Brady and I went to pick up Lillie from school a little early in the afternoon because she and I both had eye doctor appointments.
It was her first.  My eyes haven't changed that much.

84/365.....she will be getting glasses.

After eye exams, we went home and I cooked turkey burgers with homemade brioche buns for supper. SO delish!!
We hurried off after supper -- Maggie and Ken to her first softball practice and the rest of us to church for choir.

Thursday, March 27, 2014 --
Lately, he loves to try to sneak up on people and scared them or hide and scare people.

Typically, I try to take Thursdays as my day off.
But, since I was planning to go on a field trip with Allie on Friday, I worked!
I picked up the kids from school and still had work to do by way of going to Hobby Lobby to get supplies for our children's church on Sunday.
SO, Allie, Lillie, Brady and I headed off to do that.
Ken picked up Maggie a bit later when her Green Club meeting was over.
We brought home supper because we knew we had much to do that evening and there was no time to cook.
After eating our quick Chick-fil-A meal, Lillie and I headed off to another first.
Her first piano lesson.  She loved it!

85/365......she came home and practiced right away.

Friday, March 28, 2014 --
The field trip got cancelled due to impending rain.
It was an outdoor field trip, so it will be rescheduled.

Since I had already scheduled the day off.
I headed to my favorite mall to do some shopping and look for a new dress for myself.
I did find a dress. YEAY!
One of the places I tried things on was at Vineyard Vines.
I love their clothes but they don't do petites and the things I tried on just didn't fit right.
I inttagrammed them and begged for a petite line.

After picking the kids up from school, we headed off to meet my sister.
We drove about an hour and a half and so did she.
Allie was going to spend the weekend with them.

86/365.....Everyone was excited! Allie was especially excited about getting to play play with her baby cousins all weekend.

On the way home, the other three kids and I stopped at the Pottery Barn outlet in Gaffney, SC.
I found several things on my shopping trips yesterday that I would love to have.
I ended up not buying any of the ones that I found at Pottery Barn though.
Maybe next time.

So, that was our week!
Can't wait to see what everyone else has been up to.
That is, if I can find time to stop and look!
I'm already posting this a day late because by the time I got home yesterday I was too tired to care anymore.

Moments {3.21.14}

I can't believe another week has come and gone so fast.

These are the moments I captured throughout this week.
It's been another busy one and in the next couple of weeks things are just going to get busier.
I am trying to remind myself to slow down and really enjoy these moments.
To savor the times I have with my children while they are still children.

Saturday, March 15, 2014 --
My mom and step-dad were here for the weekend.
We did some Easter shopping and had a great time visiting.

74/365.....Face time with our cousins.......

Sunday, March 16, 2014 --
Another busy Sunday.  I arrived at 7:45 AM to set up.
I then went to our early worship service, did "The Gathering", set up for children's church and then led
24 Hours That Changed The World Children's Study.
The puppet show......

After that was Youth Mission to a local nursing home and then The Bridge
(our new ministry just for 5th and 6th graders).

75/365......A skit at The Bridge.....

Monday, March 17, 2014 --
Maggie and some friends tried out for the talent show....they made it! =)

76/365......Lost power due to a fuse.....

Tuesday, March 18, 2014 --
He loves to make pillow forts.
Collects every decorative pillow in the house.

77/365......a little extra time in the evening means time to make up plays and just play.

Wednesday, March 19, 2014 --
saying prayers with my favorite boy......

78/365........Her Egyptian project is due today.
She made a mummy and a tablet.
She did an excellent job!!

Thursday, March 20, 2014 -
It was my day "off". And while I didn't do any 'church work', I did plenty at home.
I baked. and I took Allie to an orthodontist appointment.
Then home for supper and bit more baking.

He was Robin all evening.

79/365......signs of the season. First (full) day of spring.

Friday, March 21, 2014 --
Today was an early release day at school.
Allie went home with a friend, so the other three kiddos and I ran some errands this afternoon.
Then on to supper with hubby.
Maggie made this picture for her Daddy.

80/ night slumber party for in our downstairs den.

Another week gone.
But more fun to come over the weekend.

Baking Day

Thursdays are my "day off".
I put it in quotes because a day off is new for me.
Since I started working part time at church, it's been hard for me to take a whole day away from the things I need to get done.
But, a book I've been reading and some great people I know convinced me that I need to have a day where I don't think about church work at all.
And it does help me keep my hours closer to the 20 hours I'm supposed to work a week.
It's hard to only work 20 hours.
There is always so much still to be done.......
Anyway,  I've been taking Thursday's off lately.
Which really is good for my soul.

This day off could pretty much be entitled "Baking Day".
I had several things on my list to make today.

SO, the day started off with a lot of this....

I got the day started with French Bread.
Here is the dough looking nice and smooth and ready to rise.

While the french bread was rising, I strained the garbanzo beans I had been cooking all morning and made a big batch of homemade hummus.
This was my first attempt at making hummus.
All in all, I think it went pretty well.
I used the recipe on the back of the package of beans.
But followed the directions from here.

The hardest part was stirring up the tahini. Good grief, that took forever.

This recipe called for quite a bit of lemon juice.

It didn't turn out as smooth as I would've liked, but it is still pretty good.
There is a restaurant in Asheville called Jerusalem Garden. They have the best hummus you've ever eaten. Hoping I can figure out to replicate it at some point.

To go with the hummus, I decided to make homemade tortillas.

I followed this recipe.

Making homemade tortillas was much easier than I ever thought it could be.

and not terribly time consuming.  I may never buy store bought again.
And next time, I'm going to try whole wheat flour instead of all purpose.

I took a break after all this was done to take Allie to the Orthodontist.
Once we returned home, I was on to my final baking venture of the day.
I made whole wheat bread.
I used to make two loaves of whole wheat bread a week and I've decided I would like to get back to that if I can.
I followed a new recipe though.
I don't know what I did wrong because it didn't rise as I would've liked.
I can't figure out why. argh......

The spoils of my labor.....
Baking day was a success.

I hear people say that bread is bad for me.
Today, I'm saying that if bread is wrong, I don't wanna be right!
{Really, I do. I'm a rule follower at heart. But I can't help it. I just love bread}
And my tummy will be saying that too tomorrow morning when I make French Toast
my French bread.
It's been a busy baking day.

Time for to get in bed for another work day tomorrow.
Good Night all.

Parenting 101 - Tweens/Teen ?

This is the Barbie doll that caused the trama.
This Barbie caused some serious girl drama today in my house.

One sister got the Barbie out of a bag of discarded toys and cut said Barbie's hair
Another sister finds it and is irate that her Barbie doll's hair has been cut because it was a special Barbie given to her by a friend in fourth grade.
And the arguments, yelling and drama began.

This scenario happens at my house so much lately.
My girls have always been dramatic.
But, now that we are in the almost tween and tween stages, it has hit a new high.

And quick frankly, it's exhausting me.
I've read many different parenting books but feel like I am completely out of my league with this new stuff.
I would LOVE to hear from you all what parenting teens books you have read and would recommend for me to read.

I am feeling desperate and am praying that God has someone out there who can recommend a book for me to read that will help us all survive these years to come.
So, that we will come out on the other side with an intact mother/daughter relationship.

And that's all I've got to say about that tonight because as I said, I'm exhausted and need to get to sleep.

Book suggestions?

Two {Random Things} On Tuesday

Finding time to sit and read blogs or peruse the internet is hard these days.
But between this afternoon and this evening I had a few minutes to read a few blogs and such.

I came across this post from Jenilee at  Our Goodwin Journey.
I really feel like Jenilee is a kindred spirit a lot of the time and this post just made me more sure.
In her post she speaks of needing alone time and an article she read called 16 Habits of Highly Sensitive People.

I am totally a Highly Sensitive person.
If you are someone who knows me, you are probably laughing out loud right now!
Just about all of those things are me.
Very interesting article.
Thanks for sharing it, Jennilee!

Also, today I saw a video link to a youtube video of Patsy Clairmont.
I just love her so I clicked on the link.
That got me to thinking about the other Women of Faith ladies.
I found this video of Nicole Johnson's that I want to share with you all.
I can so relate to this in so many areas of my life.
As a mom, a wife, and as a person who works in ministry.
"We don't work for them, we work for HIM".
What an amazing reminder for me.
{I cannot get the video centered.  It's driving me nuts. Sorry!!}

Hope you all have a great Tuesday night.
Hubs is watching some basketball tournament, so I'm headed to bed to watch something more entertaining and read some before turning in.
Good night, y'all!

Moments {3.14.14}

Another week has come and gone.
Way too quickly.
Some of the pics are out of order because of my OCD'ness'.
I need the Instagram shots to be first and the camera shots to follow.
Though, it is kind of making me tick that they aren't in chronological order.
Also, this is the first week where I missed getting an Instashot and a camera shot.
I'm devastated about that.
Here is what we have been up to in the last week.

Saturday- March 8, 2014 --
On Saturday, the girls and I drove up to see our favorite dance studio compete in a competition.
The owner of the studio is my friend, Val!
She owned the studio my girls danced with when we lived in Sylva.
It was a great day for all of us.
The girls got to see lots of friends, as did I.

67/365......A golden foggy morning......

67/365 (#2) -- Lillie and her buddy, Polly.
These sweet girls love each other.

Sunday, March 9, 2014 --
Here it is.
The day I didn't get an Instagram pic.
In all the craziness of this day, I just forgot.
The day started with arriving at church at 8AM to set up for a little later.
Then, we attended the 8:30AM service.
Then back to finish setting up for our children's worship.
Then children's church, and afterwards - two back to back meetings......
After that, we were honored to attend the Blue and Gold Banquet for the churches Boy Scout troop.

68/365......The Jerusalem Road, Jerusalem Road, palm branches and cloaks to remind if Jesus' Triumphal entry....

Monday, March 10, 2014 --
Back to work to get this work started.
A lot of mailings to get out this day.
One was a reminder that The Bridge meets this Sunday.
The Bridge is a group specifically for 5th and 6th graders.
that meets on a monthly basis......

69/ favorite snack.  Though, I am a popcorn snob.
It has to be popped on the stove in a pot.
Microwave popcorn will. not. do!

Tuesday, March 11, 2014 --
The weather was glorious.
With day light savings time back, we had extra daylight and warmth to play outside.
Our neighbor, Joseph came up to play for a while.

70/365.....A warm day = sheets dried on the line.

Wednesday, March 12, 2014 --
And then then weather changed on Wednesday.
A cold front came in bringing rain and a lot of wind.
When the rain stopped the wind got worse.
Bad enough to knock out the power.
Which forced us to cancel choir practice at one could see their music.
Loved the coziness of my den with all the candles lit, though!

71/365.....This was supposed to be a shot of the hailstorm.
But it turns out that the tiny pellets of hail wouldn't show up and didn't last long enough for me to get a good shot of it.
Still like the picture though.  The trees, the sky, the brick wall. All of it.

Thursday, March 13, 2014--
I worked a little on Thursday, then came home to clean house.
Heard "Mom, can you help me" from his room, after a crash.
He had accidentally knocked over his toy shelves in his closet which was already a mess.
He was not happy at all when I told him he would have to clean it up.

72/365.....put out some Easter decorations......I don't have any Lenten decorations.

Friday, March 14, 2014 --
In between cleaning rooms yesterday, I made some homemade French Bread.
Which I used this morning to make homemade (Literally from scratch) French Toast.
It was so good.

73/365.....Grammy and Granddaddy have arrived.
Tonight was dinner out with them and then a movie and popcorn all around.
