Thursday Thoughts and Prayer Requests

Today I got my done.  I love getting my hair done.  I got it cut and colored.  Not too much of a change.  More bangs, more layers, some blond , and a wee trim off the ends.  I have worked for about two years now to grow my hair out.  I debate cutting it but I'm just not ready yet.

I'm also packing to go on a field trip with Allie overnight tonight. We are headed to Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg, TN to sleep with the sharks. Yep.  I said to sleep with the sharks.  Allie is thrilled about the whole thing.  While I am NOT thrilled at sleeping in a tunnel surrounded my more water than I care to think about full of more sharks that I dare to think about, I am so happy this Allie wanted me to go with her on this trip.  We are in for a long night.  Bedtime for these fourth graders isn't until 12:30AM tonight and then we are up and back at it again by 7 in the morning.  I'm tired just thinking about it.......

After the field trip tomorrow, we are coming home and loading the car to head to Georgia.  Spring Break starts tomorrow for us and we are going to visit the grandparents as well as helping with a Reception for my youngest step-sister who got married in February.

SO, I wanted to get on here real quick to tell ya'll what I'm up to and to ask for some specific prayer.

1) Ya'll know how my anxiety is.  Sleeping with sharks is really freaking me out.  SO, just pray that when I lay down in the sleeping bag on top of that camping pad tonight that I can actually go to sleep.  This late 30 something year old girl doesn't sleep well on floors. OH. and probably not so good with sharks staring at me, either.  See?  Ya'll pray!

2) Since I suspect that I won't get a lot of sleep tonight, I'm asking ya'll to pray for safety and clear headedness to drive the 3 hours to Georgia tomorrow afternoon.  AND that I get all these bags packed that I need to get packed in the next 2 hours!!!! No, no I haven't really started. ugh....  I will have a bit of time to finish tomorrow....but pray for quick hands and quick work.

OK, that's it!
Thanks, everybody!!!
See you next week.  {Pray for a safe return next Tuesday for my family, too}

Surrendering to the Hard Way

Last Sunday, hubs was preaching on when Jesus said "I thirst" from the cross.
He explained that Jesus was offered a drink twice before he said that made that statement.  The first time someone offered him wine mixed with myrrh or gall. Scholars believe that it was a friendly offer of a drink because myrrh or gall mixed with wine would have either made death come sooner for Jesus by poisoning him or it would have acted as a anesthetizing agent to help ease Jesus' pain.

And he said that Jesus refused this offer ( Mark 15:23).
The part that really got to me on Sunday was what followed.  That Jesus chose the hard way.  He chose to go through his crucifixion fully.  He chose not to drink the wine/gall that would poison him or the the wine/myrrh that would ease his physical pain.

Jesus said in Matthew, that if we want to follow him, we must take up our crosses and follow him.

There are some circumstances in my life right now. Circumstances over which I have no control. I've sort of been given the hard way. And  I can choose to take up my cross and follow HIM.  Choose NOT to take the easy way.

To choose as my Saviour did to take the hard way.  Choosing for me means laying it on the alter and simply trusting God with these circumstances.  It means choosing to praise instead of complain.  To seek His peace and comfort instead of wallowing in any sort of misery.

And that is just plain hard.

Some days I do an ok job at handing it over but other days ---- not so much.

Today has been one of those not so much kind of days.  ugh! fail!

But  i will just keep handing it over. Laying it back on the alter.  And learning to trust my Lord with it all.  Because I know HE is in control!!!!

SO, I'm again surrendering to the Hard Way.  I want to take the easy way but I'm choosing the hard way.  I will pick up my cross and follow HIM no matter what that may bring.

It's scary and hard.
It's not really what I want to choose.
But, it's what my Savior did for me.

And, who am I not to do the same?

These Girls

I'd love for you to meet these two girls!
This is Cassie and Jenny.
They are two of my favorite people in the whole world.

They are really, truly incredible young ladies!
I met them when they both {at different times} began working in our Nursery at church.
Jenny began working in our Nursery about two years ago and Cassie about a year and a half ago. {forgive me if I'm wrong, girls. Feel free to correct me.  I still have Mommy brain}.....
Over the past two years, as they worked in our Nursery and then began babysitting for me outside of the Nursery, I have gotten to know them much better.
I've had the privilege of watching both of them grow closer to God and become authentic followers of Christ in that time.
I am so proud of them both for all they've done and who they've become in this time.

They are really just amazing!
Two of the most responsible people their age that I have ever met.  Actually, they are more responsible than a LOT of adults I know.

Jenny is student teaching this semester and will graduate in May.
Cassie just graduated for WCU and is currently doing the job search thing.
And even though they are so busy, they take the time to love on people all the time.
They love on my kids on a bi-weekly {and sometimes much, much, more often} basis.
They show me their love in so many ways.
They babysit for me at the drop of a hat
and they pray for me and are just my friends!

Tonight, these two girls treated me to a movie.
We saw The Hunger Games, of course.

It was a great movie!
But mostly, I just relish the time spent with these two wonderful people!!!

Jenny and Cassie,  the two of you are two of the most incredible people I know.
And at such a young age!  Thanks for the gift of seeing THE movie tonight.
Thanks for the gift of seeing it with the two of you!
It is a blessing to know you!
I love you girls!

Lamb of God

On Friday night, Hubs and I were gifted with tickets to see a local production of
Lamb of God.

It was a Passion Play that told the Story of Jesus.
The actors did a great job and the music was awesome.
It used some popular contemporary Christian songs which I loved.

My favorite song that they sang was this one.
The lyrics are amazing.
Such a touching song......

The whole song is just incredible but look at these lyrics.....

How beautiful the tender eyes
That chose to forgive
and never despise.
How beautiful!
How beautiful!
How beautiful is the body of Christ!
And as He laid down His life.
We offer this sacrifice
That we will live
just as He died
willing to pay the price....

Those last words really got to me.
Am I?
Am I willing to pay the price just as Jesus did?

At first glance, I think we are all quick to say YES! I'm willing.
But the more I live and the more I experience in my life, I am really seeing how hard it is to live like I'm willing to pay the price.  Because, by golly - sometimes my humanness jumps right up there and I am not willing to pay the price.

But, I'm praying that with the help of the Holy Spirit, I will be willing to pay the price.
To do whatever God is asking me to do no matter how hard it is or how badly I might not want to do it.

That is my prayer, tonight!

As you can see, this play gave me lots of food for thought.
Things to pray on and wrestle through with the Spirit....
So, Jerrie and Jerry --- Thank you so much for the sweet gift of a date night with the hubs and so much more!

Brunch With The Bunny 2012

Today was our churches Brunch With The Bunny.
It was a great morning!

The kids had pancakes for breakfast and then headed off to hear about the Easter Story through interactive  stations.

The first station was all about Palm Sunday.
They heard the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem and made their own palm branches to wave.

I wondered about who decided to give my three year old a pair of scissors to cut with but he did a great job!!!
After that, the kids went on to Station #2 where they learned about The Last Supper.
First by enjoying some crackers and grape juice.

They then talked about Jesus washing the disciples feet
and took turns washing one another's hands.

In Station #3, Miss Lorraine told them all about Jesus in the garden.

Mr. Scott was the craft man today and helped the kids as they made their own flower to take with them from the garden.....
Listening to the story of Jesus in the Garden.

They then met our Angel who told them about Jesus' crucifixion.
You can't tell in this picture because I turned on the flash but the kids were sitting in the dark listening to this story.....
Then they went into the light where they learned of Jesus's Resurrection and put their flowers on the cross!
Of course, the bunny was a hit!!!
Then it was time for the Egg Hunt!
 Whose ready to hunt eggs?!?!?

Candy!!!

This sweet boy loved the bunny!!!!

While we were cleaning up after the event, I got these pictures......
Lillie and Miss Polly are such sweet friends!

Pretty girls!

We then came back to our house where the girls spent time trading candy!

This is a great event!!!
If you are local and missed it, know that you were missed!!!!

Five Questions Friday Blog Hop

I don't participate in Blog hops as often as I would like to.
I've done 'Five Question Fridays' a few times in the past and I thought that
today, I thought it would be fun to play along.
Who knows, you just might learn something new about me!
So, here are the questions for today........

 1. If you were free to just hop in the car and drive, where would you go? Or, if you could hop a plane and go anywhere, where?

I would sooooooo hop on a plane and go to Europe if money were no object and I could just go and spend as much time as I wanted there.  I want to see it all.
But these would be the MUST sees.....

England
France
Austria
Ireland
Spain
Greece

and especially
Scotland and Italy!!!!

I would see all there is to see, eat {local fare} my way through each place.
I'm of Scottish descent so would love to go to where my family was "from" {about 250 years ago now}
And hubs family is Italian.  Not 250 years ago Italian, like he's half Italian.  His grandfather was from Sicily and his grandmother is Waldensian.  My children are part Italian.  I would LOVE to take them there and let them understand that side of their heritage since it is such a recent history.

2. What's your most recently read favorite book?

Easy!  My most favorite recent read is The Help.
Loved the book. Even loved the movie!!!

3. What's your favorite Spring Break memory?

My favorite Spring Break Memory.......
Has to be from the year that I was a senior in High School.
A nice lady from our church allowed my best friend, Sonya, and I to travel to Homestead,Florida with her for Spring Break.
It was so much fun!
We went to Key Largo and Marathon Key and hung out in the incredibly warm Florida weather for 10 days.

4. What do you put in your child's Easter basket? Or, for those w/o kids, what was put in your childhood basket?

My children's Easter Baskets are filled with some candy, a few small things I know they will enjoy like earrings for the girls and cars for Brady.  And usually they get something that they "need" to go with their Easter outfits....whether that is shoes, socks, hair accessories and the like.....and then maybe a tshirt or hat that I might have found on the cheap.

5. Do you get a summer haircut?

Well, I do get hair cuts in the summer but not a haircut BECAUSE it is summer.
My hair has gotten very long in the past year and though, I think I probably need to cut it shorter, I'm loving it long and it took such  a long time to get it long that I am reluctant to cut it.
SO, as of right this minute, NO summer haircut for me.

That is it.
Five Questions -- Five Answers.
Wanna join in the fun?
Go here!

Have a fantastic Friday, ya'll!
I'm headed on a date later with hubs and then tomorrow morning is our Annual Brunch With The Bunny.
It's sure to be a fun time with lots of pictures to share.
Hopefully I can share them tomorrow evening!

A List

I'm tired with a capital T tonight so I am just going to give you a list.
A list of things from today.......

1)  I did the Wii Just Sweat on Just Dance 3 today.
I had originally thought that for 4 "sweat drops"  I was burning 1 calorie.
I think I learned today that it is between 10 and 14 sweat drops.  Bummer!
I thought I was doing so well!!
OH, well.
I had a lot of fun dancing with this guy!

2) We had our first Grilled Salmon for supper tonight.  With Broccoli and Baked Sweet Potatoes.
It was healthy and delicious!!
I love grilling when the weather gets warm!

3)  Tonight was our girls Elementary School's Talent Show.  These two were in it with their classes.

This is Lillie when I dropped her off in her classroom.
This is the kids from her class who were able to be there for the performance tonight.
Maggie's class started the whole show off right with a musical number
that they played.
It was called "The Sun" and the kids played instruments that they play in music class at school

 My Mags!
Lillie's class did a great rendition of "Footloose".
 They were great!

4)  A package arrived for me from White House Black Market today.  Funny how that always makes me happy!  I adore that store.  Do you?

5)  I really wanted to sign Brady up for tee ball this year.  {I have a thing for baseball}.
But, in this county you have to be 5 to play t-ball.  Is that normal?
I remember my brother playing younger than that.
I thought for sure he could play at 3......boo!

That's it.
It's been a  good Thursday.
Now I'm off to finish reading The Hunger Games.
Since I am too old for midnight movies.......

A Touch of Tuesday

Today is already looking like a busy day.
Thought I would share with you a touch of my Tuesday.....

1) Over at Sweet Southern Prep, Ashley is hosting a Giveaway that is right up my totally "southern belle"  alley.
The giveaway is for a free MONOGRAM from Southern Nest. I'm not talking about a monogrammed shirt, I'm talking about an 18 inch wooden monogram that you can paint or leave as is and display in your home.   I am so entering this as many times as I can.  If you love monograms anywhere near as much as me, then you should go on over and enter, too!  Hurry, it ends tomorrow night!

2) This morning I'm making my menu for the week and heading to the grocery store.
I found this recipe over at The Pleated Poppy.
I've never cooked Brussel Sprouts.  In fact, the only time I've ever tried them, I didn't like them.
But, I think that had more to do with the place {a certain buffet type place that will remain nameless for those out there who like to eat there}  rather than the sprouts themselves.
I'm thinking of trying this recipe this week.  Or sometimes soon.
Do you have a good Brussel Sprouts recipe?

3)I'm working on helping put together a Reception for my littlest step-sister, Leanna.  I am searching the world over {or at least the internet over} looking for 10 1/2 inch paper straws in yellow and white stripes and navy and white stripes.  Hook a girl up if you know where I can find them.  I am having no luck and I'm running out of time.  I need to order them like today.

4) I don't think I have told ya'll that my incredible sister who I shared a picture of here yesterday is prego.
Not only is she pregnant but she is having twins!
And we found out last week that they are boys!!!
I am super excited to be having two more nephews.  Time for me to do some shopping.
You can check out her blog here.....but she hasn't updated it in about 3 weeks.
I'm waiting {rather impatiently} for new ultrasound pics of  Chester and Lester.

5) My house needs to be cleaned and there is laundry to do.
I also have a meeting tonight and hubs has two.
Like I said LONG day.  Will be trying to figure out how to cook supper and feed everyone with meetings at 5PM, 5:30PM and 6:00PM......

6) Lastly, I wanted to share this video.
For two reasons.....

First, for all of  my sweet girls who attended Saturate 2012 this past weekend, when the world attacks this week, this song is a perfect reminder.  Let it uplift you!!!
Second, some of these lyrics have such incredible meaning to me right now!!!
This song is my prayer today ...especially these lyrics.

"Oh, Holy Spirit, You're my comfort.
Strengthen me, hold my head up high.
And I stand upon your Truth.
Bringing glory unto You.
And let the peace of God, let it reign.

Oh, Lord I hunger for more of You!
Rise up within me,
Let me know Your Truth.
Oh, Holy Spirit, saturate my soul
and let the peace of God, let it reign"

Have a great Tuesday!
It's time to me to get myself in gear and get it going.
Singing this song as a prayer continually today!

Saturate 2012

This past weekend was our Women's Retreat.
Thank you all who read my prayer request and prayed for us!
The Holy Spirit moved us all and He DID show up in a Mighty way....
Rivers of rushing water.....
Here are some pics from our weekend!

Our sweet speakers preparing for the group to arrive.

On Friday night, we took at quiz to see what we knew about the Holy Spirit .
We broke off for the evening around 9:30 and enjoyed some fellowship time....

The INCREDIBLE sunrise God provided on Saturday.
Saturday morning, we were led in discussions about the Holy Spirit as Oil and Fire. And then as Water and a Dove.  Then we had some free time.
Some folks went shopping, some enjoyed a prayer walk, some enjoyed resting and the beauty of the mountain, some enjoyed a Taize Worship Service, and some enjoyed the hot tub.
Some enjoyed all of the above.
On Saturday night, we talked about surrendering to the Spirit.
And on Sunday morning, so many of the ladies did just that!!!
It was an awesome thing to be a part of .
I also love that I was at a vantage point to watch these women be touched by HIM.

The mountains as we were leaving on Sunday.....

Part of our group.....
Had ladies standing on the balcony above this.
Gotta get someone to make me one big picture of the whole group!!!
 Some of our precious ladies!

This is me and my sister!
I love that she was able to join us again this year.
I love her!
And this is me with our two speakers.
These two ladies are my friends and my mentors.  They are so very special to me.  They know all the good, bad, and ugly things about me and love me anyway.
I love them so very much for who they are to me and I was so happy to be able to share them with my church ladies this weekend.
One of my favorite pictures from the weekend.  A timely reminder......
 LOVE these girls.......
 And I love this shot.
Beautiful girls!

I had a couple of more pictures to share but I am out of storage on my blog.
Humph!
Guess I will be remedying that tomorrow!

Anyway, it was a truly wonderful weekend.
