A Week With the Walsers

The week after Ken proposed to me, he moved to a new church.

I was able to be with him on his very first Sunday in this new church.

He was introduced as the new pastor and then the sweet lady said, "And I have it on good authority that the young lady sitting next to him is his fiance".

It was the first time I was referred to as "fiance".

About a year later, right before we were married,

the wonderful people at this church gave us an incredible gift.

They had a taken a love offering for us and presented it to us in a boat since we are headed on a cruise for our honeymoon.

I loved these people before I even became the pw!

We served that church for 7 years after we were married

{Hubs served another year before I got there.=)}

Our girls were all born at that church.

One of the families who loved our children as much as we do were the Walsers.

They started taking Allie home with them after church when she was about 2.

They would take them all and dote on them for hours...even days.

We've been gone from that church from 5 years now.

But the Walsers still treat us like we are family.

Last week the girls went and stayed the week with them.

This is the view of Lake Wylie from their house. They continue to love on my kids.

We fed the fish....

And we went fishing.....

We went out on the lake in the boat....

We met new friends....

We played Mother, May I?

And those are just the things I got pictures of. We also played monopoly, attend VBS, saw other wonderful folks from that church, went shopping and to the movies and just generally enjoyed the visit. We feel so blessed to have these wonderful folks still in our lives!

Thank you, Walsers for such a wonderful week.

We love you!!!

6.19.11 - Sunday....Father's Day... After church on Sunday, we came home for lunch. These kids were busting at the seams to give their Daddy his gift so we ate lunch quickly and did presents. After a nap for Brady {and Daddy} we went to a near by town with a great playground and then out for pizza {Dad's choice} for supper.

6.20.11 - Monday... This was a whirlwind day. I woke up knowing it was going to be a crazy busy day and it was. The girls were to be laying out socks and hair stuff to go with their clothes we were packing for their week away. I was cleaning and packing for Brady and myself an overnight bag, as well as getting ready to take Maggie to an orthodontist appointment. It was made even crazier because the phone rang several times, the girls weren't doing as I asked, and Brady had a poopy accident in his pants which he tried to clean up himself and instead it ended up all over my bathroom floor. Needless to say, it was a less than stellar parenting day for me....uggh.
We finally left to take Maggie to the Orthodontist who said she doesn't have to come back for 24 months. {YEAY!}
We came home and loaded the car to head to Belmont.
As I was getting the final things packed up, I found Lillie's journal.
This was her entry that day....
"A Prayer to God. Dear God help me do the tings that my mom tells me to do. I hope I tell my mom to carful when she dus stuff. help me leasn {listen} to my mom and dad. help my sisters do it to. Jesus is my safuor. Jesus is my Lord Almin"
Made my day!
We then made our way to Belmont.

6.21.11 - Tuesday...Brady and I stayed the night with our friends who were keeping the girls for the week.
We got up Tuesday morning and enjoyed feeding the fish.
This is my Allie after we had fed the fish.
I love this picture.
Brady and and I then headed back home and left the girls for a week of fun with our friends.

6.22.11 - Wednesday...On Wednesday morning, my friend, Kandi, picked me up and we were off for a short girls trip to the ATL to attend a concert. My sister, Ginger, and Kandi's friend, Michelle met us in Atlanta. What concert did we see? NKOTBSB, of course!!
And I am not going to lie. I loved it every bit as much at 37 as I did when I saw them at 16.
I only have this picture of us from that night due to the fact that they won't let you bring cameras into Phillips Arena.
But this was taken at supper right before heading to the concert.

6.24.11 - Thursday...We spent the night at the Omni Hotel on Wednesday night
{NICE place!}.
On Thursday morning, Michelle headed home and we dropped Ginger off because she was headed to visit our parents for the weekend. Kandi and I spent the afternoon doing some shopping and then headed back to home.
It was quite a wonderful mini girls trip!!!

I took this picture at the place where we ate lunch right before heading on home.
Any guesses as to where we were?
I love this place....salsa, yum!

6.24.11 - Friday...On Friday, Brady and I went back to Belmont to visit our friends.
We took the kids fishing on Friday afternoon.
This is Allie holding one of the many fish she caught.

6.25.11 - Saturday.... On Saturday, my friend, Wendy and I (and Brady) went to Concord Mills Mall to exchange some shoes I had gotten for Brady on Thursday that were too small. We did a bit of shopping while we were there. It is a great mall!
Our other friends, Tina and Julie had taken the girls to see a movie.
Then we all met back up and went out on Lake Wylie.
The kids LOVED getting to go out on the boat and so did I.
They also enjoyed swimming in the lake.
I did not swim.
Just took lots of pictures, which I will share asap!

SO, now you know why I didn't blog almost at all last week.
What have you been up to?

Isaiah 58

This has been an incredibly busy week. I've been out of town and back twice already and am heading back out tomorrow morning and won't be back until Sunday. I will have LOTS of tell of when I get back, including Father's Day with our little family.
For now, I wanted to share these scriptures. God has me really pondering on these verses. They speak huge amounts to me. I hope they will speak to you also!!!

1 “Shout with the voice of a trumpet blast.
Shout aloud! Don’t be timid.
Tell my people Israel of their sins!
2 Yet they act so pious!
They come to the Temple every day
and seem delighted to learn all about me.
They act like a righteous nation
that would never abandon the laws of its God.
They ask me to take action on their behalf,
pretending they want to be near me.
3 ‘We have fasted before you!’ they say.
‘Why aren’t you impressed?
We have been very hard on ourselves,
and you don’t even notice it!’
“I will tell you why!” I respond.
“It’s because you are fasting to please yourselves.
Even while you fast,
you keep oppressing your workers.
4 What good is fasting
when you keep on fighting and quarreling?
This kind of fasting
will never get you anywhere with me.
5 You humble yourselves
by going through the motions of penance,
bowing your heads
like reeds bending in the wind.
You dress in burlap
and cover yourselves with ashes.
Is this what you call fasting?
Do you really think this will please the Lord?

6 “No, this is the kind of fasting I want:
Free those who are wrongly imprisoned;
lighten the burden of those who work for you.
Let the oppressed go free,
and remove the chains that bind people.
7 Share your food with the hungry,
and give shelter to the homeless.
Give clothes to those who need them,
and do not hide from relatives who need your help.

8 “Then your salvation will come like the dawn,
and your wounds will quickly heal.
Your godliness will lead you forward,
and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.
9 Then when you call, the Lord will answer.
‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.

“Remove the heavy yoke of oppression.
Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!
10 Feed the hungry,
and help those in trouble.
Then your light will shine out from the darkness,
and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.
11 The Lord will guide you continually,
giving you water when you are dry
and restoring your strength.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like an ever-flowing spring.
12 Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities.
Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls
and a restorer of homes.

13 “Keep the Sabbath day holy.
Don’t pursue your own interests on that day,
but enjoy the Sabbath
and speak of it with delight as the Lord’s holy day.
Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day,
and don’t follow your own desires or talk idly.
14 Then the Lord will be your delight.
I will give you great honor
and satisfy you with the inheritance I promised to your ancestor Jacob.
I, the Lord, have spoken!”

It was another super busy week around here. Go on and take a look!

6.12.11 - Sunday...began with church {of course}.

Immediately following church, there was a baby shower for one of our sweet Mommies-to-be for the second time.

I didn't take this picture, but it does show what I was doing on Sunday.

Ken and the other three kids went to meet his Mom to pick up Allie, so after the shower, I came home and rested for 2 hours and even napped. It was glorious!!!

After my nap, it was time for my study at church.

Wonderful Sunday!!!

6.13.11 - Monday...I had several meeting on Monday {well, really, just 3} and then I went over and had lunch with a dear friend of mine who was in town for Annual Conference

in a town nearby.

This is at band practice with our awesome 9:12 Band. They lead worship in one of our services.

The girls are singing with them at church.

6.14.11 - Tuesday....On Tuesday, Miss Lillie cut her hair off.

We plan to send it to Locks of Love. And she loves her new bob.

I do, too....even though it makes her look much older.

6.15.11 -Wednesday....Wednesday was Allie and Maggie's last day of school.

We picked them up about noon { it was only a half day} and took them to lunch to celebrate.

This is the only picture I got that day and it was on my phone.

Their choice of restaurants to celebrate.....

Aunt Lauren and Uncle Seth { my step-sister and her hubby} stopped by on their way home from a meeting to visit for a while Wednesday afternoon. We were SO excited to see them. I enjoyed the visit so much!

Wednesday evening we had the biggest storm we've had around here in a while. It was crazy, my girls were screaming, and it knocked out the power in thousands of houses around town.

Luckily, our house kept power....the church, however, did not. So - bible study was cancelled for that night.

6.16.11 - Thursday.... The first day of summer vacation for our family.

The girls cleaned their rooms and their bathroom.

As well as the mudporch {which I am super excited about}.

After that, we had an impromptu cookout with our neighbors across the street.

Such a great evening.

This is Brady riding his scooter after he hate his supper....

6.17.11 - Friday....We had a pretty laid-back morning.
Then Hubs and I went on a date. It's been so long since we have found time
to go on a date, and it was sooooo nice.
We went to a movie {Pirates of the Caribbean} and then
to supper at The Travinia Italian Kitchen. IT was delicious!

6.18.11 - Saturday....I was awakened this morning
by Maggie, who had come down with a stomach virus... We were up off and on
for the rest of the night.
I had a meeting for our Community VBS and then
ran some errands for Father's Day.
I also went to pick up copies of this quilt for
my Sunday School Class.
We are raffling it off for a couple of our young people at church
who are going on a Mission trip to Africa.

It has been a pretty busy week around these parts.

Pondering On.....Philippians 4:4-8

Perfect reminder for me today.....

Philippians 4:4-8
The Message (MSG)

4-5Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you're on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is about to arrive. He could show up any minute!

6-7Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

8-9Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

and I'm sure for someone else as well......

First Day of Summer Gratitude!

1. Waking up to a quiet house. Enjoying a cup of coffee and quiet time with my Bible and the Lord in a quiet house.

2. Homemade Whole Wheat Blueberry Muffins for breakfast.

3. Time to get things cleaned up {and not by me}

The girls cleaned their rooms, their play room and the mud porch today.

All places they made into messes themselves.

4. These two helped Daddy clean up downed branches from the storm last night.

5. Impromptu playdates and picnics with our great neighbors!

Although the getting the kids to clean was difficult at times, and having all kids here all day = lots of arguments on their part and lots of practice being a patient, godly Mom on my part, It really was a great day.

And since the cleaning is all done, tomorrow -- we will have a great day together!

Kindergarten Grad!

On Friday, June 10, 2011, Miss Lillie graduated from Kindergarten.

She was super excited it was her last day of school.

This is the Principal giving Lillie her diploma.
The Kindergarten classes sang at the ceremony.

This is Lillie's class.

She was blessed to part of a Kindergarten/ 1st Grade Combo Class.

The upper two rows in the picture are the 1st graders. They participated in the singing

part of the ceremony.

One of the songs they sang was
"We Are The World".....

with motions....

Afterwards, we went back to her classroom for doughnuts and breakfast stuff.

This is Lillie and her friend Macie.

This is Lillie and her friend Addie.

This is Miss Lillie and her AMAZING teacher,

Mrs. Clement.

This is Miss Lillie and the assistant in her classroom, Ms. Aimee.

However, Ms. Aimee, is more than just the assistant -- She is more like teacher #2.

We've been incredibly blessed by these two this year!

And we will miss them SOOOOO much last year.

Lillie's teachers gave awards to the kids. Lillie got an award for being a "Red Hot Reader"

and she got the "Whale Done" award for always doing great work.

These awesome teachers also made each child in the class a scrapbook.

Congratulations, to my very excited Rising 1st Grader!!!!
We are all very proud of you!!!

A Couple of Recipes

A while back {ok - it was almost a year ago, but whose counting} my cousin Wendy came for a visit. We met at a park and the kids played for a good long time and when it came lunch time, I suggested that we come back to my house for lunch. We made sandwiches for the kiddo's (we have 4 kids a piece) and I served leftover Chinese Chicken Salad to she and her husband. Her husband loved it and she asked for the recipe. This is a recipe that I got from a sweet friend from church who is an amazing cook!! SO, finally after almost a year, here is the recipe.

Ellen's Chinese Chicken Salad

4 poached chicken breasts, shredded {sometimes I chop it}

1 bunch cilantro, chopped

1 can sliced water chestnuts

1 13.5 oz bottle Peanut Sauce

Poach the chicken and shred while warm. Add Peanut Sauce. Add water chestnuts and cilantro and mix all together in a bowl. Let it cool and then refrigerate. It's best when allowed to sit in the fridge for a couple of hours to allow the flavors to meld.

1 red bell pepper, finely diced

2-3 stalks of celery, finely diced

1 large bunch of green onions, thinly sliced

1-2 cups of bean sprouts

1 napa cabbage, shredded

1-2 heads of Romaine lettuce, shredded

Top with:

Chow mein noodles

chopped peanuts

Serves: 8

I also wanted to share a recipe for something entirely different. It's a recipe for NO MORE WHINING!!!! The whining and my house has been uncontrollable lately. I'm serious. Out. of. Hand. My sweet friend, Kandi, dropped this off for me today....

I've had it a total of 2 hours and I'm already employing it. I love Ginger Plowman's book, Don't Make Me Count To Three, so I am looking forward to doing this. I think summer {school is out in just 2 more days} will be the perfect time to get started on this. Hopefully by the time school starts back we will be a whine free household. Of course, we only have 6 weeks so we will see. I will let you know how things go.

Have a great Monday evening y'all!

We have a meeting to attend in about an hour and then I may head out to hear some good preaching tonight.

Well, another week has come and gone and I must say that I just feel like this year is flying by. So, without further's what we've been up to this week.

6.5.11 - Sunday.... This past Sunday, my Sunday School Class hosted a Spaghetti Dinner as a fundraiser for a couple of folks at church who are going on a mission trip to Africa this summer.

They are going to Burkina Fasa, Africa.

But every time I hear that name all I can think is "Mufasa!" as spoken by Scar in The Lion King.

Anyways - this is at the dinner. These two sweeties were helping take donations and sell bracelets.

6.6.11 - Monday.... Monday was the beginning of a very busy week for Ken. He has had meetings everyday and every evening.

Monday night after his meeting, I got to spend some time with a few friends.

One of them was my sweet friend, Kandi.

She tried her very first ring pop...ever.

I KNOW....totally deprived. ;)

6.7.11 - Tuesday... I'm completely upset with myself. I was so excited that I had remembered to take a picture everyday this week....

Except that when I went back to do this post,

I didn't get a picture on Tuesday.....uggghhh.

Possibly because Maggie woke up sick.

A quick trip to the doctor confirmed my suspicions that she did, indeed, have step throat once again. boo.

6.8.11 - Wednesday....Maggie was feeling much better after a couple of doses of antibiotics. So, she and Brady "helped" me make muffins.

They were helping a lot here

by testing the chocolate morsels.

6.9.11 - Thursday.... On Thursday, Kandi and I went to Asheville to have lunch with a dear friend, Kellie. It was soooo nice to see Kellie. I always leave feeling that love has been poured into me after having lunch with her. It was a wonderful lunch with my sweet friends!

AND - we ate at the Tupelo Honey Cafe, where one can experience all kinds of southern goodness.

Just look at this biscuit....

6.10.11 - Friday.....Wow, was Friday a busy day. It started with Lillie's Kindergarten Graduation, which will get a post all it's own asap.

Then, I brought Lillie and Brady home for a couple of hours then headed back to the school to pick up the other two girls early.

We got them early because it was Allie's weekend to go home with Nana.

We drove down and met Nana. I failed to get a picture of Nana and Allie before they headed out. I was changing a diaper instead. boo, me.

On the way home, we stopped and met hubby and our friend Rob at one of my favorite places. Fat Buddies. They have great ribs. yum!!

We then went over to Lake Junaluska where Ken's meeting is for a while.

We saw quite a few ministry friends (his meeting is a pastor's meeting)

and I took this shot on the way out.

Isn't it beautiful?!!?

6.11.11 - Saturday....Today, hubs headed back to his meeting and the kids and I were here most of the day. We tried to go over to the pool where hubs' meeting was but when we arrived they had made everyone get out of the pool due to thunder. We sat and waited for an hour with very unhappy kids and it never stopped. SO, we drove back home and let them play in the sprinkler for a while.

That made these two much happier....

That's what we've been up to this week.

What have you been up to?
