The Toy Shoppe

This past Saturday, May 28, 2011, was the girls Dance Recital.

This years theme was "The Toy Shoppe".

As usual, the teachers and the kids outdid themselves. It was an amazing show!

Maggie took Musical Theatre this year.

You might remember that they did "Pinkalicious- the Musical" in January.

For the recital, her call did "You Can't Get A Man With A Gun" from Annie Get You Gun.

Maggie's solo was the line " I'm cool, brave, and daring to see a lion glaring when I'm out with my Remington"....
She did a great job! She sang clearly and enunciated so we knew what she was saying.
My favorite line from the song though was this one, "Oh, the girls with umbrellers - they always get the fellers"....HA!
One day I'm gonna have to see that show!

Allie's took ballet this year.

Her class was Toy Soldiers and they danced to The Nutcracker Suite.

It was truly a beautiful dance.

And my sweet girl shined!

Miss Lillie took a Ballet/Tap Combo class.

Her class was dressed like "Monopoly Girls"

Her ballet dance was to a show tune about money.

I can't seem to find the name though...and all Lillie knows is that it says, "money,money,money,money....."

It was an incredibly choreographed dance and these

little 5/6 year olds did a fantastic job.

Her tap dance was to "She Works Hard for Her Money"

It was really cute, too and again these little girls did an amazing job!

A shot of my three beautiful dancers!

Maggie and Lillie's dances were in the First Act and Allie's was in the Second Act.

SO, during Intermission I got these pictures.

I didn't get any of Allie - she had already headed backstage for her dance.

Maggie and Grammy

Lillie with Nana and Grandpap

After the recital, we all went to supper.

It was a crazy, busy, wonderful day!!!

SO proud of my girls!

And I was looking back at previous dance recitals.

This was last year. (2010)

The year before that -- my sd card broke and I got no! (2009)
This is from 2008 .

5.22.11 - Sunday...On Sunday, we went to church, made a mad dash home to change clothes and drove back to Camp Tekoa to pick up Allie and Maggie from CPS 2012 {which hopefully I will get around to posting about this week}. Then we made a mad dash home for meetings and bible study.

This is a picture of Allie and Maggie's group at CPS at the final assembly. 5.23.11 - Monday... I had a busy day of cooking on Monday so I didn't have time to read all of these magazines and catalogues that came in the mail....

matter of fact, I still haven't found time.

5.24.11 - Tuesday... This was the birthday of a sweet friend of ours.
We took her flowers from our yard.
Aren't they pretty?

5.25.11 - Wednesday... I thought I was doing well this week, but I didn't get any pictures on Wednesday. I did, however, get my hair done and work on my bible study materials.

5.26.11 - Thursday...Brady's class had their end of the year party. Brady brought home a counting book he made, a tie-dye t-shirt he made, and the award for Class Flirt. {ahem}

5.27.11 - Friday.... Brady's last day of school and his last day in our MMO program. Next year he will be in the 3 year old preschool class. This is a picture of him with his beloved Miss Anna and Miss Janie. We love them!

5.28.11 - Saturday...Dance Recital Day. More pics to come on this but here is one with all the girls and baby brother.

As usual, we had a very busy week. It was also Allie's first year of EOG's.

She did great -- got 3's on both of them!

With today's dance recital, things are beginning to wind down here for the year.

Dance is over until the fall, Brady is done with school, Lillie has two weeks of school left and Maggie and Allie have two and a half weeks left.

We are looking forward to summer!

What have you been up to this week?

That's What Little Boys Are Made of.....

This morning, our friend, Jasper came over to play for a little while. The boys played with the golf clubs and a guitar {though it was a pink princess guitar, to be honest}.

They played with every ball they could find in the house and they played trains.

I then took them and a ball out in the yard to play and took some pictures of them . It struck me while I was watching how different these boys are from

the three girly girls I have.

It amazes me to see the differences that just seem to be
ingrained in them.
A love of dirt, balls, trains, cars, and sticks.
I so enjoyed watching them play and just be boys!!

You are worried about seeing him spend his early years in doing nothing. What! Is it nothing to be happy? Nothing to skip, play, and run around all day long? Never in his life will he be so busy again. ~Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Emile, 1762

Boy, n.: a noise with dirt on it. ~Not Your Average Dictionary

There comes a time in every rightly constructed boy's life when he has a raging desire to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure. ~ Mark Twain

Of all the animals, the boy is the most unmanageable

Boys are beyond the range of anybody's sure understanding, at least when they are between the ages of 18 months and 90 years. ~ James Thurber

Boys are found everywhere -- on top of, underneath, inside of, climbing on, swinging from, running around or jumping to. Mothers love them, little girls hate them, older sisters and brothers tolerate them, adults ignore them and Heaven protects them. A boy is Truth with dirt on its face, Beauty with a cut on its finger, Wisdom with bubble gum in its hair and the Hope of the future with a frog in its pocket.
~Alan Marshall Beck

I am so thankful that I am blessed to be the mother of 3 girls....

and a boy!

They're the Best!

Do you ever feel like that you know the best college students in the world?

Well, I do!

Today was our friend, Jenny's, 21st birthday.

How many people do you know who would invite 4 kids and their pw over for cake on their 21st birthday?

That is exactly what Jenny did today.

This is Cassie, my girls, Brady and Jenny.

Cassie and Jenny work in our church nursery.

They're the best! Brady helped Jenny blow out her candles....

We got a tour around their new house.
Which delighted my girls beyond belief.
Because, Cassie and Jenny treat them so wonderfully.

They have a deck of cards they are asking people to sign when they come over for a visit.
They asked us to sign one.

They're the best!

They didn't mind and even laughed when Brady dumped the whole puzzle they are trying to put together.
They let the girls snoop around their bedrooms....
Jenny stood and let the girls take turns jumping on their mini trampoline....

They're the best!

My kiddo's with the birthday girl!

silly face photos......

Even the bf's didn't seem to mind having us around....

They really are the BEST!!!

Happy 21st Birthday, Jenny!

Thanks for letting us be a part of it!!

3.15.11 - Sunday.... I got no pictures, again. I hate that I didn't though because it was a big day. My sweet friend, Jenny, got baptised in church on Sunday. It was an incredibly sweet, blessed time. And my friend, Kellie, came from 2 hours away to be there with us. It was awesome! It was a super busy crazy day. Crazier than Sunday's tend to be. Because after church, Ken had a meeting to attend so the three kids I had at home drove to Morganton to meet my in-laws to pick up Maggie who had spent the weekend with them. We drove directly back and it was time for bible study. whew....

3.16.11 - Monday...this was after bathtime on Monday but before bedtime.

He asked to have his picture taken.

3.17.11 - Tuesday...On Tuesday, Brady and I went to the Just Ducky Warehouse Sale and scored some great deals!! We came home and I noticed as soon as I got him out of the car that he was running a fever. I had to leave him with his Daddy though and take Allie to a dr. appointment. Then it was time for supper and I spent the evening sitting and holding a sick baby boy. No pictures on Tuesday....
3.18.11 - Wednesday... I ended up taking Brady to the doctor. Luckily, we had no strep throat {my fear} , nor did we have the flu. Just a virus. He ran a fever for a few days. This is again, before's where he chose to sit to brush his teeth. He apparently was the only kid who was available to have pictures made this week....

3.19.11 - Thursday... Thankfully, Brady was much better by Thursday. We had to take Maggie to her cheer practice and the kids played on the playground for a bit after practice....

3.20.11 - Friday... was the beginning of our churches annual "Camp Patton Springs". Allie and Maggie are old enough that they got to go as campers. Ken and I were going to help for Friday night and Saturday, and so Lillie and Brady were going with us. I packed us all up to go to camp and then left after lunch to go set up. Ken brought the kids later in the day.

This is our friend Emily.

She was leaving for the whole summer on Saturday. This is her sad face that she was going.

3.21.11 - Saturday.... We were still at camp. I hope to do a whole post on CPS 2011 tomorrow so I will just share this picture from that day.

This is my sweet boy being silly with the stickers Ms. Kim gave him.

We had a busy, but fun week and are beginning another busy week.

Precious Gifts!

Today has been one of those days.

One of those days when parenting is just plain hard.

One of those days when you wonder if you are doing anything right

and you are thinking that the answer is no......

and you feel like no matter what you say no one is listening

and no one really cares.....

But I know that the Lord has given these precious people to me as a gift.

Psalm 127:3 (New Living Translation)
Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from him.

It's funny. {or really it's not}.

I wasn't scared to become a parent.....

but now I am thinking I probably should have been....

Because training these little people in HIS ways

is one of the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

Proverbs 22: 6

Train up a child in the way he should go:

and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Because goodness knows, I am not a perfect Mom.

I get angry, I lose my patience, I yell.

But, imperfection is to be expected - I just want them to see

that I am a follower of HIM and even though I'm not perfect

that I am striving to be like Jesus

and to teach them about our Savior.

I want to be a better Mom.

I want to be more like HIM!

I want them to know how much I love them.

SO, I spent some time apologizing to my kids tonight for my imperfections

and for not acting as Jesus would....
and I will continue to pray for Less of Me -

and MORE of HIM.....

and I will continue to mess up, and apologize

and ask forgiveness.

And I will continue teaching them WHO our Savior is

and hopefully grow more like Him everyday

so they will see him.

I will continue to talk about Him to them

I will continue to do this incredibly hard thing called

being a Mom.....

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (New International Version)
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

....because these little people are precious gifts from the Lord above.

And they deserve my best.

Tomorrow is a new day --

I will begin my day in prayer--asking HIM for help

in this parenting endeavor.

Because today {as everyday}

proves again -- that I can do nothing apart from Him!
