Pennsylvania Vacation - On Our Way and Williamsport, PA

I fear that my vacation posts will be at least 5 in number. So bear with me. Seeing as how my scrapbooking is stuck at M being 6 months old, this is my scrapbook these days.

We headed out on Thursday, July 15th right after lunch.
We made it all the way to the Virginia state line before we had to make out first stop.
That's 2.5 hours from our house....not too bad. We stopped for supper in Wytheville, VA and then drove on to Pulaski
where my in-laws have a home on Clater (Crater?) Lake.
Beautiful view, huh?
K and the kids had a rousing game of kickball.
B didn't really play - he just wanted to commandeer all the balls
and I was too busy taking pictures....=)
K had to explain kickball to the girls before they could play.
Taking a 'walk' around the bases....

Miss L gets a good kick!

Yes, we play kickball barefooted....doesn't everyone?

Silly boy.....

On Friday morning, we had a quick breakfast at the lakehouse,
cleaned up, and got in the car to make the 5-6 hour drive on to Pennsylvania....
except that it took us 9.5 hours....
Everything was going along quite well. We headed out. Found a starbucks for me,
drove 3.5 hours and stopped at Chick-fil-a for lunch around Front Royal, VA.
We got back in the car and drove another hour or so and had just made it
into Maryland when strange noises started coming from this one....

He threw up on everything near him....
So, we found a stopping place....
a nice park in Williamsport, MD.
The girls ran off and played on the playground while
I cleaned up throw up boy and K cleaned up the carseat
as best he could....

Febreezing himself.....even though he was clean already by now.

SO glad I had that little bottle of febreeze with us. It made the smell

bearable at least....

After about an hour - it took a long time to clean up everything,

we hopped back in the car, got some drinks as it was 102 in the heat that day

and headed on to PA! We finally made it into the state.
Although it took us another 2.5 hours to make it to our destination.

We finally arrived in New Columbia, PA in just enough time to unload
the van, check into the hotel and go find some supper.
These two had a great time playing on the beds....
The following day, hubs and granddaddy headed of really early for their first rail car trip.
Nana Lee Anne, the kids and I drove up to Williamsport, PA.
We took a trolley ride through town.
It is a beautiful old town!!

These two thought they would nap through part of the ride....

Not the rest of us though.
There were too many beautiful old places to see.
This house was part of Millionaires Row....

Williamsport, PA is also the birth place of Little League Baseball.

After the trolley ride, we took a ride on the Hiawatha Riverboat.

We ate a picnic lunch on the boat

and enjoyed the sights that God created!
After that, it was time to head back and meet Daddy and Granddaddy
and the rest of the rail club for supper....

The local railclub there in New Colombia, PA hosted a lovely supper
and gave caboose rides....

Riding in the top bunk of the caboose....

L sat on the lower level with me.....

By then everyone was exhausted from days of traveling so back to the hotel we went.
I went to bed that night with great happiness and contentment in my heart for having seen some more of God's beautiful handiwork.

Menu Plan Monday with cousins and Thomas The Train

Wow. It has been really difficult getting back into the swing of things with my menu planning after having the last week or so off.....I had a hard time trying to figure out what we should eat!

We are going to be headed to hub's grandmother's 94th birthday party this weekend so we will be gone Fri/Sat.... but here is what I did come up with......

Also this week, after returning from vacation, we are super crunched on extra funds so this week's menu is as simple as possible to make it budget friendly.

I also wanted to share with you all a couple of pictures.

Before we left to go on vacation, I learned that my cousin, Wendy, would camping in a town near by for the week. We got our kids together one morning to play.

These are 7 of the 8 kids. They really are stairsteps in age. Her's were all born between mine.

Baby Jude isn't in this picture.

Also, yesterday after noon, hubs and I took B (and the girls) to see Thomas. He LOVES "choo-choo"!! They all played in the bounce houses, got tattoo's, got balloon aminals and saw Thomas. We arrived, however, 30 minutes before they were shutting down for the day. K wants to take B again later this week, but I'm not so's just so HOT outside!!

Tried to get a shot of all of them in front of Thomas

this was the best we did....not great!

Watching as Thomas drove to his resting place for the night...

I just love this dirty-faced little boy....

For the few of you who are looking for our vacation photos, know that I'm working on it and I hope to have the first post up tomorrow. Have a great Monday.

I'm off to finish my grocery list!!!

Luke1: 37

We are still on vacation. I had big plans to upload and share our trip with you as we have traveled. But staying in one room with 4 kids has made that difficult. Well - really one child --B-- has made it all very difficult.
Bedtime for him is usually about 7 PM and even though we have been in our room most nights by about that time, he is used to being put in his bed (after prayers) and left to go to sleep. In a hotel room with the rest of us there, laying down and just going to sleep isn't happening. So, he's been staying up until he literally just drops off to sleep around 10 or 11PM. Add that to his couple of wake ups each night, and it leaves me too tired to do anything to lay around and hope he will join me each evening.
So, I will have to share our trip with you all next week. We are also getting up and out everyday pretty early so that leaves no time for sharing.....we are enjoying our family time being semi-disconnected!!

For now, though. Lest I forget, I want to share the little exchange between my girls and me from the other day. On Saturday evening, we were taking a caboose ride through the railcar association, and M was giving me a list of things that are impossible. L decided to join the conversation and said,"Pink cats are impossible."

M replied with, "Nuh-uh. You can dye your cat pink"

L said, "Well, God doesn't make pink cats."

A few minutes later, hubs came over and I said to him, "L says that God doesn't make pink cats."

To which he replied, "Nothing is impossible with God."

As You Go.....

This spoke to me this morning in my quiet time.....It is found in Chapter 13 of Angela Thomas' book, A Beautiful Offering.

"I don't know what God will do. I only know what He has already done. I can't see how we'll cross, but we're not there yet. Because I belong to God, I cannot embrace "impossible bridge"theology. I belong to the God who divided a sea to let His people through. I belong to the God who makes a new path in the desert. I belong to the God who built a bridge from heaven to earth just for me.
I cannot see how to navigate what seems impossible, but I will keep walking. I do not know how all these needs will be met, but I will trust with each mile marker of His faithfulness that God will give greater provision than I can imagine.
I will stand up and go forward and expect the bridge of His deliverance. A bridge of grace. An amazing superstructure of His glory where there seemed to be no way."

As a chronic worrier, I needed this reminder this morning.....
May it be a reminder to you today you go...

Matthew 6:25-34 (The Message)

25-26"If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don't fuss about what's on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.

27-29"Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

30-33"If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

34"Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

Pennsylvania Or Bust

After lunch today, hubs and are packing up the kids and heading out on vacation.

We are going to Pennsylvania! We will drive part of the way today and the rest of the way to our first destination on Friday.

Granddaddy and Nana Lee Anne will meet us there on Friday night.

Hubs and his dad (Granddaddy) are doing a rail car trip Saturday and Sunday. While they are doing that, Nana Lee Anne, the kids and I plan to do some things by ourselves. The rest of the week we will be doing fun stuff together.

We are taking a ride on the Hiawatha Riverboat, and going to Hershey. We will visit the Lancaster area where we will visit Strasburg Railroad and do lots of things in Amish Country.

We will also visit Gettysburg while we are there.

In order to prepare the girls for visiting Gettysburg and the Amish Country, I've done a lot of looking for activities and books that I will use on our trip up to teach them about the Civil War and Amish people. I found this great site for Civil War activites.

Also, since it is such a long drive, I've bought the girls drawing paper and a set of twistables each to make their own scrapbooks of our trip. They can draw pictures and write about it. They will also take turn using my old digital camera to take pictures of what they see so they can write about those too! I can't wait to see how this turns out!!!

I am hoping to be able to upload and share pictures here as we go,but I really can't promise anything.

We are all very excited about this vacation. I'm especially excited about visiting the Amish Country. A says she isn't excited about the long ride.....

Have a great Thursday everyone! I'm off to run a few errands this morning to the post office, to get a few things we still need for our trip, and to the library to check out some kids books on the civil war and Amish ways of life.

And then we are outta here!!!! YEAY VACATION!!!

Hopefully I can post some pictures of our day this evening....we will see!

Crawfish Boil

On Saturday, we were invited to a Crawfish boil. It was held right here in the mountains of NC.
The food was delicious. The Crawfish were flown in and were very fresh!

The dog, Sparky, thought he would take a shot at
getting one form himself.....

He got pinched a few times, but he did it.
But this little guy was not going down with out a fight....

Angry Crawfish.....

In the basket, ready to be cooked!

It amazed me that all three of my girls ate crawfish....
and liked them.....they say.

But Miss O was having none of it!

Our friend P with L and M.

L showing me she was about to try the crawfish...

Daddy taught A to peel them herself....

B was afraid of them....

J and K had a lot to discuss.

The host finally gets to eat...

He did however like the dessert!

Eating dessert..........

These little boys were so cute together.
Our friends F and J along with B.

Thank you sweet friends for inviting us to the crawfish boil. The food and the company was prefect. We had such a good time!!!
