Reading List - Revisited

Back in January, I posted my reading list. Since I have been 6 months, I thought we should take a realistic look at where I am on my reading list. To see links to any of these books, click here.

02 (O subscript 2) by Richard Dahlstrom - I only have two more chapters in this book.
done!
Do You Think I'm Beautiful by Angela Thomas done!

A Prisoner and Yet by Corrie Ten Boom still in process....had to put it down for a while.

And here is my future reading list:

Instructing a Child's Heart by Tedd & Margy Tripp I think I've read one chapter so far.

unchristian by David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons

A Beautiful Offering by Angela Thomas Have a few more chapters to go in this one.

Not Good if Detached by Corrie Ten Boom

Defeated Enemies by Corrie Ten Boom

Guys are Waffles/ Girls Are Spaghetti by Chad Eastham

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis about half way through

Everyday Talk by John Younts about half way through

5 Conversations You Must Have With Your Daughter by Vicki Courtney

The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom (already read this once but gonna read it again!) Loaned this one out but planning still to read it again.

Really doesn't look like I'm doing too well does it? It's hard for me to find time to read with a toddler running around.
Also, I joined a book club a couple of months ago, and we are reading our first book. I bet you are wondering why it is taking more than one month to read a book. Well, the book is Les Miserables and we are taking it one "book" at a time. So, we started in April and should finish in September. SO, when I have a chance to read something 'fun', I usually pick that book up until I'm done for the month. SO far, however -- I've not been finished with a 'book' long enough before time for us to meet and discuss that I have had time to read other books.
I'm also still working on reading through the bible in a year. I'm behind (I will admit it) but I am working on catching up.
Lately, I'm doing my bible reading during my quiet time, as well as reading John Yount's Everyday Talk {Which I HIGHLY recommend by the way).
So, that's it. Looks like I'm failing my reading list. How about you?
How are you doing on your reading list, 6 (ok - almost 7) months in?

Fun, Friendly Friday

A couple of Fridays ago, ( I know I'm way behind on my posts!)my family had a day that needs remembering so I'm making it a post.
First thing that morning, we had family pictures made by an awesome photographer! I've seen a few of the proofs thus far but I CANNOT wait to see the rest.

One thing of note that happened that morning is this.....I went to pick up some balloons before the photographer arrived and came home and my husband had gone from this
to this.....do you see it? He shaved off the goatee.
He now has only a 'soul patch' (at least I think that is what you call it).
He said that he wanted to look different in these pictures than the ones we had made a couple of years ago......alrighty then!
After the pictures, we ate lunch and loaded the kids in the car and drove over to Pigeon Forge,TN. It's only about an hour and a half across the mountains from our house. Some dear, dear friends of mine from home were there on vacation with their kids and
I invited myself had invited us over to visit!
This was my best friend growing up with her son and her Mom.
Along with her two brothers and their families. Sonya and I were best friends from about the 5th and 6th grade I think. Her younger brother and I worked at a camp together when we were college age and I got close to him there. Her older brother is a pastor and I knew that he had Ken could relate to one another. And her Mom was really like my second Mom! I love them all very much and it was so nice to get to have our families spend some time together.
We took the kids swimming at the pool. These are my kids, Sonya's son and her younger brother's kids. Her older brother's kids aren't in this picture. There are 6 of them. We had lots of kids around!
everybody make a silly face!

I honestly have no idea what this is.....after three girls, I'm
still learning about boys....

Miss A.....

Here they are.....all greased up and ready for the pool.

These two had a great time playing together!

And these two? Well. They had a good water fight. =)

I don't know why I don't have shots of my M in the pool. She was having a ball though!

I didn't take my swimsuit and neither did K. So, Sonya got in and played with B.

After a couple of hours, it was time for us to go. This is me and Sonya before we left.
She threatened my life if I put this on fb or my blog......
sorry I just had to! I could've put pics from our teen years from our Hairnation days....
but I will refrain! at least for today anyways.....

K had convinced the girls that we should go to a pancake house for supper.....thankfully for me there were no pancake houses open for supper so we settled on my fav -- Mexican!

He love chips and salsa almost as much as me!!!!

Since we couldn't find the promised pancake house, the girls were offered the
candy store next door to our restaurant instead.

These three got themselves some sour powder.....
We all got some candy. Can you go into a candy store like the ones in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and not get candy? K and B got some green apple licorice (yuck) and
I got a caramel apple. I can't go through Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge without
getting a caramel or a candied apple!
Reminds me of all the youth trips we made there when I was a kid.
As is customary in these mountain candy shops, this one was making taffy.

The nice guy gave the kids all a free, fresh piece of taffy. They loved it.
And then our day was done and we headed home.....

My Prayer and Praise!

God, You are my God; I eagerly seek You.
I thirst for You;
my body faints for You
in a land that is dry, desolate and without water,
So I gaze on You in the sanctuary
to see Your strength and Your glory.

My lips will glorify You because

Your faithful love is better than life.

So I will praise You as long as I live;
at Your name, I will life up my hands.

You satisfy me as with rich food;
my mouth will praise You with joyful lips.

Psalm 63:1-5

Thank you, Lord, for this day! Help me as I travel through the journey that you have for me today. Give me travel mercies this morning as I take my girls to meet their Nana. Give me pleasant words to speak to all that I meet today....so that in some way, I can impart YOU on each one of them.

Give me patience. Give me kindness. But above all, give me your guidance and give me your love.

Amen and AMEN!

Hotel Pool Fun!

The weekend that we moved to our new house, we were blessed to have two sets of grandparent in town. The two grand-daddies were taking a rail-car trip and the Nana and the Grammy helped set up house.
We also took advantage of the pool at their hotel The kids LOVED it!!!!

Miss A is getting to be a pretty good underwater swimmer.
Now we just have to work on above the water swimming .

Miss L is learning to jump in without holding on to the side....
this after almost giving me a heart attack by jumping
and holding on to side....

M jumps in with no fear.
She also does 'backflips' under the water.

B liked the pool pretty well.
But he really like the hot tub better....
a boy after my own heart. =)

The weekend of the move, a big surprise came with Grammy and Granddaddy!
It's Uncle Heath -- we loved having him here.
He helped move furniture and played with the kids
who just adore him!!!

His big sister adores him, too!

Here are the grands watching all the excitement!

Free Edward's Dessert Singles

A while back I was contacted by a sweet lady from Edward's Desserts. She asked if I would be interested in reviewing their Edward's Desserts Singles. I said yes --- free desserts? Who could turn that down? She mailed me some coupons and during my next trip to get groceries I grabbed a few varieties of Edwards Dessert Singles.

From the name Singles I thought that hubs and I would share the one slice of pie in each box. I was delighted to find that there were two slices-- enough to go around.

These pies are pre made and frozen, so all you have to do is let them thaw a little and then enjoy.

SO far, my most favorite has been the Creme Pie slice with Reece's ......it was the best. I also really like the Key Lime Pie. It was the perfect blend of sweet and tart. Not too much of either!!!!

I looked into the background of the Edwards brand and was delighted to read that they are from Georgia --just like me!

Are you interested in trying some Edward's Dessert Singles? Well, the generous folks at Edward's sent me coupons to share. So, we will have a small giveaway here! Two of you will win two coupons (each) for FREE Edward's Dessert Singles.

Well? What are you waiting for? Go on over to edwardsdesserts.com and check out their many varieties. Come back here and let me know which ones you want to try. Contest ends at midnight this coming Sunday (June 27th,2010).

Have a great Wednesday y'all! I'm off to finish cleaning house, shop for and prepare for my little cookout tonight!

See ya soon!

Camp Patton Springs in pictures - year 2

I finally got around to uploading pictures that I've had on my camera for about 3 weeks now.

There are quite a few events on there that need recording.

I will start with the first pictures. A couple of weeks ago A and M got to participate in Camp Patton Springs. This is a weekend camp for kids and is really one of our churches biggest outreach events. This was our second year to be involved since coming to this church. Last year was A's first time to get to go and I wrote about that here. This year since M is a rising 2nd grader, she got to go as a camper, too. They LOVED it. The rest of us also joined in for some of the fun when we drove over on Saturday afternoon to spend some time with the campers. We even ate supper with them.....ahem. Camp food -- it isn't my favorite but it was alright!!!
Here are some pics of our day and some of our youth/kids who participated in the event!!!
When we first arrived, they were serving a snack.
Watermelon.
And even though his face looks otherwise, he really did like it!

It was then swim time. They had a lake for the kids to swim in and a wading area for the little ones to play in...
Miss L really loved it!

This is our friend T!
We love her!

Miss M and our friend, C!
We love her, too!

K got in the wather and made a swing for B out of a noodle.
He thought it was great fun!

Sweet big sister and baby brother shot!

My A! love this one!

Two of our campers! Miss M and Miss C--
We love them too!

One of the counselors -- Mr. D --
taking a much deserved nap!!!

The climbing wall. Our friend E was up there.
We love her!

After swim time, it was time for some singing before supper.
Mr. S getting all tuned up.

And the singing begins....

And then it was off to supper and I took no more pictures.
My kids LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Camp Patton Springs. And as I said it is a huge outreach for our church. We had 101 campers from rising second graders through graduating seniors. And they all learned more about what it means to be an example and had a great time at camp this year.
Can't wait til next year!!!!
Happy Father's Day. We are off to celebrate my hubs and have some quality family time this afternoon!!!!
See ya'll tomorrow!
