A Change of Plans

Instead of putting up this sign that is almost finished.....
Instead of opening presents.......

Or making and handing out goody bags........
Instead of having a Pink Pirate Party tomorrow for Miss L,
it looks like we will be doing more of this.....

That is right! The one weekend, nay --
the one time in my whole life that I don't want snow
it's this one.
But it looks like we are in for about 1 foot
of snow before morning. The party
will have to be rescheduled......
but we will spend tomorrow playing in the snow!
Here are a few pics. of the kids when the snow first started this afternoon.

L. walking around!
Look how hard the snow is falling!
B. really enjoyed playing outside.

Just look at that smile!

Miss M. trying to trick her Daddy
She was about to throw a snowball at him!
And A. always has to taste of the snow!

I'm sure there will be many more pictures made tomorrow as we play in the snow~! And we will be rescheduling the birthday party. Surprisingly, Miss L is ok with it. I expected tears - but she didn't cry at all. Maybe it was the prospect of lots of snow to come!
Y'all have a great weekend!!!!

A little Etsy Love

So, I thought I would share with you all today some of the awesome things I've been finding on Etsy lately.

Bowdacious Baby is making my girls their valentine's shirts. Each girl picked a different one so I will show them too you closer to Valentine's Day. They are precious!!!! I can't wait to get them! Go check her out! She has so great stuff!

I am getting Mr. B's valentine's shirt from Same Monogram. It is SO cute! It has a houndstooth airplane on it that I love. I can't wait til it gets here!!!! Go check out what else she has!

I also ordered the girls some absolutely PRECIOUS pillowcase dresses for St. Patrick's Day because no one wants to get pinched!!!! Here is a link to All That Jazz Designs. We are getting zebra print dresses with a green polka dotted band around the bottom. They are awesome!

While I'm at it -- I'd also like to send you on over to see my IRL friend, Lisa. She has a great Etsy shop called A Diva and Three Dudes Designs. YOU have to go on over and check it out!!!

I have to say that I have shopped on Ebay for quite a while and I still do but I'm quickly falling head over heels for Etsy. Awesome stuff!

Have a fabulous Wednesday. We have a lot to do this week still. The weather man is {NOW} calling for really yucky weather here on Friday/Saturday......I'm going to be very sad if it ruins Miss L's big day!!!!

Commentary on Hollywood

Today I'm a little fed up with a few things in Hollywood.

First, the whole Jay Leno/Conan O'Brien thing --- I'm so tired of hearing about it. I think that there is a lot of blame to go around in this -- Jay and NBC included but I'm a little disgusted about the 30+ million dollar settlement Conan is getting to go off the air. Seriously? 30 + MILLION Dollars!!!! What? I think the whole thing is RIDICULOUS!!! I mean aren't we in the middle of an economic crisis? And Conan gets millions to "NOT" be on tv anymore. I just don't understand that!

Second, I heard on tv tonight that Tiger Woods is in rehab. Probably a good thing. But then they also said that he made $100,000 worth of upgrades on his room so it would be comfortable for him. HUH? The rooms were beneath him?

Now, I know that one shouldn't believe everything one sees on tv. And I don't . But still. If that statement about Tiger is even remotely true, it makes me sad.

And the whole Conan/ Jay Leno thing -- again -- makes me sad! People in Haiti could really use that 30 million dollars. And who knows - maybe Conan will give some - maybe even a lot-- of his money away.

Sometimes I think we need to remind these people that the love of money is the root of all evil.
And clearly -- there is some love of money going on here. Am I the only one who feels this way?

So- thanks for letting me gripe for a few minutes.
Been a busy week. Not much time to write anything that matters. Hopefully next week!
Have a great weekend!!!!

Soul Clutter

One of the books I'm reading right now is Do You Think I'm Beautiful by Angela Thomas. I was reading this morning and the topic of Soul Clutter grabbed my attention. Angela defines soul clutter as "the collection of emotional, relational, and spiritual issues that we have been stepping over." Just before this definition, she spent some time explaining that we women tend to just make a pile of clutter on the bottom stair of our souls and instead of picking it up, sorting through it and putting it away, we just walk on by it.

That got me to thinking. Whoa! I think I do that a lot. It's just easier in the mad dash of my life as a Mom, wife, PW, and whatever other hat I might be wearing to walk right past those things that I need to deal with. Well, I'm sure you know what happens when we walk by for long enough without picking up the clutter! Our souls start looking like a place that just might qualify for an episode of Clean House. She gave a long list of the things that clutter our souls. Here are just SOME of them: gossipping, escapism, believing lies you've been told, rejection, rebellion, fears, envy, legalism, insecurity, codependency, depression, anger, bitterness, a critical spirit, body image, sabotaging your health, unforgiveness, unrepentance. The list goes on --but if I'm being honest, these were the ones I could see in my own life.

Ouch. There might be something to this for me. My soul just might be a hot mess that really needs untangling. I tend to stay so busy and take on so many things, feeling pressure to "do" for everyone. Feeling like I should be able to do it all. SO, when I start feeling like I have something that needs done for myself, then I feel guilty and walk right on past it. Thinking I should be able to handle it myself and just keep on --keeping on.

With my health issues of late, I'm realizing that there are many things in my life that need to change. Choosing gratitude and grabbing joy instead of being pessimistic is one of them. Another thing that I've felt God saying to me lately is that maybe I just need a break. As much as I LOVE leading bible studies, I'm feeling that right now is not the time. I am the mom of 4 kids and there are many, many days when they receive my worst and not my best and that isn't fair to them. I am a wife and in the same way there are many days when hubs receives my worst and not my best and that isn't fair to him. NOR is it right. First and foremost in this life, these are the tasks God has given me. To be a wife to my husband, to be a Mom to my kids and give them my very best and not my very worst. And walking by the soul clutter is giving them my worst. Instead of dealing with the soul clutter, I've just tried adding more and more to my list so as not to have to deal with it. God is calling me to take a break. To deal with my soul clutter and then give my ALL to my family. After I learn that maybe I can do more for him again. BUT this is the first step. Because just as Angela Thomas said, "Soul Clutter will keep you from intimacy with God".

SO, then the question becomes how to deal with the soul clutter. Well - here are the steps that Ms. Thomas gives to dealing with it.

1. Acknowledge the Mess (hey! I've got one down -- I'm a HOT mess and I know it! And I'm not denying it anymore -- nor am I walking past it from now on!)

2. Realize that you might need to call for help. We shouldn't make the mistake of thinking that having God as our only strength means standing alone. Maybe we need a friend, a pastor, or a good Christian counselor.

3. Pray and seek prayer covering! Ms. Thomas said that there will be NO power in our lives if there is NO prayer in our lives!

4. Expect this season of reconciling, reordering, and repairing to take longer than you think it will. wow. Looks like I will be learning some more patience too. And I'm hoping some quietness for my soul!

5. Journal. I used to be really good at journaling. But I notice that when my life gets hectic, I do less of it and that is when I need it most. I am working on doing more of this.

6. Allow God to lavish you with His Grace. Another thing I'm learning about myself is that I've never allowed God to lavish me with Grace. I've never really accepted that his mercies are new for me every morning. I'm working that. Learning what his amazing love is all about!!!
I will now be making a new set of Truth Cards that are all about God's amazing love, grace and mercy. Maybe if I'm beaten over the head long enough by his love -- I'll get it!!!!

Well - I've got a LOT of work to do. What about you? DO you have soul clutter that needs dealing with?

Thank you, Angela Thomas, for this great book, this great chapter and this WONDERFUL scripture for me to really ponder and chew on today!!!!

Psalm 103:8-14 (New International Version)

8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
9 He will not always accuse,
nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.

Which reminds me of THIS wonderful song! I will be humming it all day!

Hope yours is a great Tuesday. I will be making an important phone call this afternoon. If you think of it, will you please say a prayer that if this is God's will that HE will open the doors and make it all work out? I would appreciate that VERY much!

Choosing Gratitude

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I am a pessimist.

Apparently, I've done a pretty good job of hiding that with most people though. Lately, I've found myself talking to friends and admitting my pessimism and they were shocked. Really. They didn't think I was pessimistic at all.

In thinking and researching all of this anxiety stuff, I have realized that my pessimism is a part of my troubles. I worry about everything. I think nothing is going to go my way. I don't know why I do that. All of this spills over into my relationship with God, too. I'm coming to see that I think God is good to everyone else -- and I think he CAN do anything he wants to and that he CAN be good to me too -- but that he just doesn't want to.

I KNOW that is not biblical -- in my head but....dern! I can't get my heart to understand it. I can sit and tell every person I see every day of my life that God is good and he can be trusted to take care of them. BUT I cannot believe it for myself.

Well. I've been thinking a LOT about this and I really don't know how to change my pessimism towards what God is going to do for me, but I think I've come up with....NO, God has shown me that first step.

That first step is this: choosing Gratitude.

I don't do a very good job of counting my blessings. Instead I tend to focus on the bad things. The things that aren't going well in my life.
The people who aren't being good to me. The things I don't have....and so on -- all with the negative slant!

SO, God has shown me that one thing I really need to do to start moving out of my anxiety, is to be grateful. To really be thankful for the things He has given me. This is where I am. Deciding today to CHOOSE GRATITUDE as my attitude -- and not my regular pessimistic negative self.

How's that for honest, real blogging? I'm not even sure it made any sense....

I will also be asking a friend of mine to hold me accountable to this. I have to retrain my mind to think positively, and thankfully.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-23
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.
Brothers, pray for us. Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Ya'll have a great Wednesday. I've got planning to do for my preschoolers at church tonight and of course, housecleaning to do. AND an attitude of gratitude to cultivate!!!

Birthday Girl

We have a Birthday Girl in our house today! My baby girl, Miss L is 5 years old today! It's been a great year for Miss L! Last year for her birthday, she was very into singing. This year it's all about the American Girl Dolls.

She's learned a lot this year. She can write lots of letters and lots of words. She can sound out words, although we aren't really reading yet. She absolutely loves school and enjoys going everyday. She's even learned some things about Jesus this year.
We have enjoyed L in her 4th year. She is full of giggles! She loves her sisters and her brother fiercely and yet can be so mean when wants to me. {Sometimes I refer to her as "the little girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead -- you know that poem, right?} But those mean moments have dropped in number and she has given us many more moments of laughter!

She has been so excited all day about her birthday. She informed her Daddy yesterday at lunch that since it was her birthday that meant that she got a cupcake. SO - I stopped and got cupcakes for her to enjoy with her friends at school this morning which she said were delicious! In our house, on your birthday, you get to choose what is for dinner. Just like a girl, she is prone to changing her mind - but for now she wants to go to Ryan's. {I'm dreading that place just thinking about it!} BUT - go I will in honor of Miss L!
Since L is 5 today, I think by now you know that in our house that means it's a BIG party year. We have been busy working on L's party which won't happen until January 30th because that is when we could get the church. I will be sending out the invitations to her friends and our family this week. We are using black, pink and zebra print (because everyone needs a little animal print) and here is a hint to the theme Miss L has chosen!

Happy Birthday, Miss L! We all love you very much!
Ya'll have a great afternoon. Lots to do today (as usual -- seems like that is ALL I say) and it's time for the older girls to be home from school. Homework and chores loom large in our future.
Be back tomorrow I hope!!!!

Win -Win - Winner!!!!!

Well - I was hoping to get this done first thing this morning BUT of course things didn't go the way I planned them. That is usual for everyone, right? Mondays are always one of the busiest days of my week but today has been even busier! My kids school had a two hour delay this morning so that started us out today running a little later. Then I went to work out (my legs will be jelly tomorrow but YEAY ME!!!) , after that I had a meeting and some errands to run!

SO, now I'm home for the moment - and I'm finally sitting down to get to my blog for today. I went to random generator-- put in the numbers and now, here it is !!!! The winner of the CSNbaby giveaway is........

Congratulations, Joy! Send me an email at with all your stuff including which dress you want and in what size and I will get it taken care of.
THANK YOU to everyone who entered! Now, I must get going my list of to-do's is still really long today. I've got to prepare for a meeting tonight, make a grocery list, get groceries, and then attend 2 different things tonight. NOT to mention doing homework with the kids. WOW - I'm already worn out thinking about the rest of the day.
Ya'll have a great one!!! I'm wondering today. Is it just me or are your Mondays as crazy as mine?

A Challenge

This day, in itself, will be a challenge. Hubs is sick with some kind of stomach bug and all 4 kids are here today, too. Due to the massive 1, possibly 2, inches of snow we have outside. And maybe that is a very generous estimation.....I'm not very good at that sort of thing. Anyway - with a sick husband, 4 kids and a meeting I'm supposed to attend sometime today, and dr. appointments for all 4 kids to get their booster H1N1 shots--- I'm thinking today will be a challenge.

But that isn't what this post is to be about. I am writng today because a friend of mine, Elaine, read my list of resolutions (which by the way- I've already thought of more things to add). She emailed me and said that we should read the bible through in a year together in order that we could hold one another accountable. I thought that was a fabulous idea and then! Elaine had another fabulous idea. She suggested we invite more people to join us -- saying "the more the merrier, right?"

Well - I couldn't agree more! SO - that is your challenge. Would you like to join us in reading the bible in a year? This is the bible that I bought. Except I bought it in paperback for $5 at Lifeway last week. SO run, run, run to your nearest Lifeway Store and get yours! AND it is not too late! I know that it is not January 1st but to be honest I didn't even get my bible until the 4th so I'm just reading two a day when I can until I catch up to today's date! You can do that, too!

Also - before I go - I just want to share with you why I decided to get a "one year bible" instead of using one of the myriad of bibles that we already have at our house. Last year, about this same time, I read someones blog (I wish I could remember whose it was) about their New Year's Resolutions. And this lady said that every December she bought a new One Year Bible to read each year. She said that not only was she reading her bible in it's entirety each year but that it also served as a journal of sorts because she could go back through previous year and see what she had written in each one. She could see the dates of things that happened and see where and what God was saying to her. Well - I decided that I would do that this year. I love the idea of being able to do all of those things!!!

Now, here's the question for you -- How shall we do this? How do we in blogland keep one another accountable? If you want to join us and have an idea of how to actually go about all of this -- let me know! Let's see what we can do and we will all be proud of ourselves and closer to God come December 31st, 2010!

Ya'll have a great Friday! I got an email while I was doing this post that my meeting is being rescheduled. One less challenge for today. YEAY!!! Don't forget that my giveaway is open until Sunday night at midnight! Go and enter now! Can't wait to see who is gonna jump on this challenge with us!

2010 Resolutions....

Well, I'm a little late sharing my list of resolutions with you this year but I have been working on them.....somewhat. As I know you've all been waiting with baited breath to hear what they are -- here is the run down.

This year I will be organized. I used to have "command center" notebook of sorts where I kept everything I needed including a house cleaning schedule and a daily schedule, as well as my "spring cleaning" list and schedule. It also included things that I needed to keep up with -- school schedules and that sort of thing. It was always with my calendar so I could easily get to what I needed and get on with my day. I stopped using it when I got pregnant with B. I plan to rework my command center notebook and start using it everyday.

I also plan to get my house back in shape after all the holidays and get all the spaces that get junked up -- the pantry, the drawers, closets -- all organized. See, those things will go on my Big projects list in my notebook. =)

This year I will become a healthier person Mentally and Emotionally. I will learn to deal with my anxiety. I have refused to believe that I even have an anxiety problem for a couple of years now. I always thought that when someone had panic attacks, they were in direct response to a stressor. I'm learning that isn't so. I am learning that I have all the symptoms of a major anxiety issue. So, this year, I plan to figure out some ways to deal with the anxiety. One of those ways is to go to Yoga and Pilates classes. There are various other things I will do to help deal with my anxiety but this is one of them. I went to Yoga today for the first time. YEAY ME!

That leads me to the next thing This year I will become a healthier person Physically. Yoga and Pilates help here, too. But I plan to find a way to add some cardio of some kind into my days, too. Maybe I will get out and ride the girls scooters they got for Christmas. I will also eat better. And by proxy, my family will eat better, too. For a while now, I've been working on cutting down the amount of red meat we eat and having a meatless supper once a week. A friends of mine has "Meatless Monday's" -- I love it! And I might just decide to do that, too! I will also work on getting more sleep. B is beginning to sleep better and I will do my best to get at least 7 hours of sleep. I will also be working on drinking those 8 glasses of water a day. Today, so far, I've had about 20 oz. Wow. Long way to go still.

This year I will become a healthier person Spiritually. I will read the whole bible this year. I bought a 1 year bible yesterday. I'm a few days behind because I just got it -- but I will be reading two days each day til I catch up. I'm looking forward to what this alone will do for my time with God. I also plan on getting back to my times that I spend with God each day. I like to have three. I will be returning to getting up at 6AM and having some prayer time and reading time. Then I put B down for a nap at 1PM and L has some tv time. I do some reading then, too. And some praying. I try to pick a book that is going to spur me on in my journey of faith. Lastly, before I go to bed, I will do my daily bible reading in my 1 year bible and have another prayer time. I can't wait to see what all of this does for my relationship with God and with others! I long to be a better Mother and Wife and just plain be WHO God is calling me to be -- and this is the best way I can think of to move toward those goals.

This year I will contribute to the Spiritual Growth of my children. Hubs and I agree that we will be even more conscious of how much we talk about what God is doing in our lives with our children as it is appropriate. For a while, I was working on memory verses with our girls and they were doing great. Then, school started and that kind of fell to the wayside. I plan to get back to it and figure out when we can fit it into our day again.

SO, wow. That's a LOT but I think it's all do-able. It's all out there for the world to see and ya'll can now hold me accountable to these things this year.

What about you? Did you make 2010 resolutions?

OH!!! Please don't forget to come back tomorrow. I have a wonderful giveaway that you won't want to miss!!!! I am so excited about it!
